GenMSies in action💎🏆… Our GenMS Hons students from @humgen_uct presented their research protocols today. Well done GenMS’ for very good presentations 💪🏽👏🏾

🌍🎉Congratulations to Professor Alison V. September on her nomination as a member of the U.S National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK), a prestigious recognition reserved for the world’s most distinguished scholars in the field of kinesiology, physiology and exercise science. 💪🏽

This week on GenMS connect🧬 Masters student, Njabulo Khumalo tells us more about his research which focuses on studying the transcriptome profile of primary fibroblast cell lines that carry specific genetic variants linked to an increased or reduced risk of ACL rupture.
Congratulations Prof Dandara! Well-deserved!
Huge Congratulations to our Head of Division, Prof Collet Dandara, for being awarded the Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) Africa Prize 🌍👏🏾 @humangenomeorg @DandaraCollet @UCTHealthSci @UCT_news @AfSHG_Genetics @SAHumanGenetics
This week on GenMS connect 🪢. We look at the importance of the connective tissue in our bodies. Did you know? Connective tissue is the body’s invisible framework, supporting and connecting everything together! Yet it’s often overlooked? 🔬🔍🕵️♀️

GenMS stones 💎 At this week’s Journal Club, Trevor Mafu led a thought-provoking discussion on the ethical challenges of AI in genetics research! What are your thoughts on AI in research ? 🤔❔

Dr Firfirey presented a talk titled "Decoding Opioid Signaling Pathways: Allele combinations within ABCB1, OPRM1 and COMT, are associated with Chronic Shoulder Pain and Disability symptoms in South African Breast Cancer Survivors" at the UCT postdoctoral fellow roadshow.

🌟 GenMS had the great honour of hosting Prof. Sam Ibeneme, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, and colleagues. We showcased our work and discussed exciting collaboration opportunities! 💡🤝

🎉Huge congratulations to Dr Firfirey on earning her PHD! Her research, guided by A/Prof Shamley and Prof September, addresses chronic shoulder pain in breast cancer survivors. ✨Well done Dr Firfirey! 👏🏾

🎉Help us congratulate Trevor for passing his PHD. Under the guidance of Prof September and A/Prof Shamley, his thesis explored gene variants in angiogenesis & ECM pathways linked to shoulder pain post-breast cancer treatment. Well done Trevor- GenMS is proud of you! 💪🏽✨

GenMS connect Fascinating facts about the body’s hidden web. Identical twins might share DNA 🧬but they have unique fingerprints! During fetal development, genetic and environmental factors like pressure, womb position and amniotic fluid shape these one of a kind patterns!
