You might think this pink, wrinkly little creature belongs in a galaxy far, far away – but it’s actually a Turtle Frog (Myobatrachus gouldii) from WA! 🐸 Thanks to Justin’s #FrogID submission from the outer suburbs of Perth, we now have over 90+ records of this fascinating frog.
Pat captured a fantastic frog chorus from a paddock swamp after rainfall, helping fill key data gaps in the Northern Wheatbelt region of NSW. How many frog species do you hear? 🔊 There are still priority areas needing more recordings. Learn more: australian.museum/blog/amri-news…
Hear a series of quacks? That’s a Bumpy Rocket Frog (Litoria inermis) recorded by Christine in QLD! Their range stretches from the Kimberley, across the Top End and through most of QLD, except the far southwest. Keep your #FrogID app ready if you’re in the area!

Recorded west of Lake Macquarie, NSW was the Littlejohn’s Frog (Litoria littlejohni) - a threatened species and an exciting find! We’ve now reached 70 #FrogID records of this elusive frog! Help us learn more by recording frog calls with the #FrogID app!

Thanks to a recording of the Western Water-holding Frog (Cyclorana occidentalis) from WA’s Mid West, we’ve added a frog record in a poorly recorded region, boosting #FrogID’s spatial coverage to 39.6% of Australia. Thanks for your submission, Justin! frogid.net.au/spatial-covera…

A major revision of Australo-Papuan tree frogs (Donnellan et al. 2025) proposes expanding genera for 122 species 🐸 For now, we’ll continue using the familiar scientific names but gradually add the proposed new names to #FrogID profile text.

Calling now is the Whistling Tree Frog (Litoria verreauxii). This species is found in southeast QLD, along the coast and ranges of NSW, the ACT and the eastern half of VIC. Listen to their call on the #FrogID app and do record if you hear it!

A beautiful Great Barred Frog (Mixophyes fasciolatus) captured by Kaz A while recording with #FrogID in a semi-rural area of the City of Brisbane. These large, ground-dwelling frogs are known for their deep, booming calls and love of moist forest floors.
While hiking through rainforests of NSW, our project coordinator Nadiah Roslan captured the call of the tiny Pouched Frog (Assa darlingtoni) using #FrogID. What makes this species fascinating is the male carries tadpoles in pouches on his body until until they become tiny frogs!!
A recording submitted by R. Ferluga of the Northern Flinders Ranges Froglet calling from Yankaninna SA is especially noteworthy — it's the very first frog record from that grid cell, whether through #FrogID or any other scientific source. Explore the map: frogid.net.au/spatial-covera….
