Tex Schramm, followed by Pete Rozelle both at the Los Angeles Rams both in the 50’s Ironically my father who was NFL Commissioner at the time talked Rozelle out of quitting the Rams because of a squabble between the Owners.
@uptonbell Question for you: who was the NFL's first standalone GM? Someone who was not also a team owner, head coach or defacto GM (like a head scout, for instance). I'm googling and checking newspapers and can't find anything yet.
Unfortunately, a lot. These "all-time" lists are just "best of recent memory" and possibly have an old guy or two inserted to try to make it look like they researched history. Some of these lists are just embarrassing.
Ken, I wonder how many people who pick these lists ignore the past greats because they didn’t see them or don’t bother investigating them
I also have Paul Brown at the top of my list.
I call Paul Brown Moses in Book Present At the Creation. He is my NO 1 pick of NFL Coaches. Brown was and is the Father of modern NFL Coaching. He changed the game in every way and his influence is still around today
Today's #FormerPlayerHighlight is Will Hunter. Hunter was recently hired to take on the head coaching role at Nottingham High School located in the Syracuse area. Good luck Will. We are rooting for you and your team! 🙌
The Hall of Fame sends happy birthday wishes to Cowboys Legend Bob Lilly! The Class of 1980 member turns 84 today. 🎂🎉 #HBD
