PSG’s goals vs Liverpool & Arsenal were identical! • Attract press to the left (Mendes x Pacho passing quality). • Manipulate midfield w/ off-ball movement to create space. • Dembélé arrives into space. • Attack the flanks to stretch the backline.
Funny how the screenshot ignores the intense pressing run he made seconds earlier. Højlund did well cutting lanes + prepping to press the GK too. As @tactixology says, pressing isn’t just running around. Fair criticism is fine, but this reeks bait.
If you want your team to win the ball high up the pitch, you have to understand it comes with the risk that the opposition might play through the press and exploit the gaps left behind. If you’re not willing to take that risk, then you have to accept that your team will be…
Anyone got, or saw a Florian Wirtz all action comp from the Milan game? It’s in times like this I wish Liverpool FT had someone like @_Utdbaki 🥲
The current talk around United’s defensive structure, or lack of it, isn’t anything new. Our centrebacks struggled to time their jumps into midfield almost all of last season. Brighton, Newcastle, and Southampton were all clear examples. To me, it’s more of an IQ and…

Watched a few Sesko comps (I know, not the best way to judge a player), but I think the criticism around his “technique” is a bit overblown. He’s obviously not the silkiest, which is understandable given his build, but his ball control in different scenarios (chest control,…
Benjamin Šeško vs. VfB Stuttgart
I’d take waiting 3 years for Mbeumo over this…
🚨 Newcastle in talks with Southampton to sign Aaron Ramsdale. #NUFC offer for 27yo goalkeeper loan + buy option. #SaintsFC to consider sale, loan with significant fee & purchase price or stay. No outcome but advancing @TheAthleticFC after @SkySports_Keith nytimes.com/athletic/65169…
I feel like the more time you give Højlund, the worse the decision. Good control & arm use right after the turnover=instinct. Then the bad decision to pass to Mainoo once he had time. Same later, good control but extra touch again when he didn’t need to.https://t.co/APlauVTODj
As with Enrique, fluidity with Amorim will come with time— fluid dynamics however are just much different positionally. We won’t have such a fluid midfield or front 3, but in wide areas— vertical variance over horizontal e.g. LCB, LWB, LCM, L-10 > LW, CF, RW. Serious potential.
Vitinha explaining the positional switching in Luis Enrique’s system. This is how fluid his PSG team is, the collective IQ of Man Utd’s squad, wouldn’t be able to cope with this information.
Osula’s hold-up and link-up play, followed by his movement into the box to free up the pass to Elanga.
I cannot comprehend how Liverpool are going to get close to 80m for Luis Diaz.
This post was solely about Liverpool’s pressing. I only likened Wirtz to Ødegaard out of possession, so I thought the comparison was obvious. Yet some think I’m being disrespectful to Wirtz 😂 Either I’m missing something, or people just don’t think Ø is one of the best…
Liverpool’s press looked different. •Wirtz’s the new Ødegaard? Pressing 2 while shadowing a 3rd. •Only 1 winger jumps wide (RB backing the press to ease Salah’s task.) •Szobo deeper for more midfield intensity. •Backline going m2m, goodbye Slot’s +1?
His Sporting side circulated the ball like a Newton’s Cradle, hypnotic to the point of boredom. But once it reached the final third, it went from 0 to 100 with quick combos and triangles. Problem is, as we all know, his team was rarely pressed high in the league.
Amorim strikes me as wanting a variety of tempos, slow the game down, play short but go long and direct if it's the right thing to do. It can probably be learnt but this squad has a few top level players that like to play at one pace, and often lack the ability to go slow.
One of the rare times the inverted CCB actually works for Manchester United but only under “special conditions” and with help from opposition errors. Miscommunication between Bowen and JWP, Fullkrug fails to cover Yoro, and Soucek jumps late.
