Here’s Day during his time at Schubin. The second photo shows him at the funeral of Flying Officer Peter Lovegrove. He was part of the mapping and surveying team for the escape committee and fell from a 3rd storey window while trying to survey the area beyond the wire.
OTD in 1943, Bill Cameron was captured in Tunisia. Handed to the Germans and sent to Stalag Luft III, he was a tunneller, taking part in the Great Escape. He survived the war, returning to Canada to start a family. Our episode with his family is out next year! Credit: DVFP

In 1943, MI9 issued Allied airmen ‘escape’ boots with a concealed knife. If downed in enemy territory, they could cut the boots to resemble ordinary shoes, aiding their disguise as civilians during escape attempts. Photo credit: IWM

This week's guest is Gražina Kristina Sviderskytė, biographer of Romualdas Marcinkus. In 2004 she wrote “Uragano Kapitonas”, her biography on Romualdas Marcinkus, which was translated into English with the title “The Hurricane Captain”, in 2006. Episode is out tomorrow!

OTD in 1941 Alfred Keith 'Skeets' Ogilvie was taken PoW. One of the last to exit tunnel 'Harry', he was recaptured after two days. Liberated in April 1945, he passed away in May 1998. Our episode with his son, Keith Ogilvie, is out next year. Photo: bbm.org.uk
