Interested in using present-day and aDNA genetic data to study the evolutionary history of modern humans. Research group leader @LIIGH_UNAM
📷 Thrilled to share my 1st PhD's 1st publication at @LIIGH_UNAM. Anecdotally it is also my 1st paper as corresponding author from my group / the "Paloegenomics and Evolutionary Biology" at LIIGH. shorturl.at/VumOq. Let us know what you think about it.

🚨We're thrilled to announce that the FIRST International Conference on Palaeogenomics will happen in Stockholm, Sweden, June 23-26, 2026 Topics will span from humans to wildlife and sediments 🧬🦣💀🦠 bring it on! RT, save the dates, and check icp2026.palaeogenomics.org for news.
New paper🚨 A team co-led by #cpgsthlm's researcher @jcchacond has analysed DNA from a large number of mammoths across a million-year timescale. 🦣🧬 The findings include the discovery and analysis of the oldest known woolly #mammoth in North America!
Not a fan of adding every author by hand in order to submit a abstract to @ISBArchaeology 11. Almost there though.
We are so excited to kick off the celebration activities of our 10th year anniversary at @LIIGH_UNAM revisiting the origins and motivations to create the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research in 2015 as an entity to further propel #GenomicSciences in Mexico 🎉🎉🎉
Happy international fossil day! A great day to highlight their academic, cultural and educacional importance, but also to remember that fossils must be cared for and protected.
🚨Job alert 🚨 We are looking for a Postdoc to join us in Stockholm, on a project that aims to use palaeogenomics to investigate cold adaptation in several different Arctic animals! ❄️🧬❄️🧬❄️🧬❄️🧬❄️🧬❄️🧬 Please RT! Full advertisement is here: su.se/department-of-…
✨️ I’m excited to share my second-author paper encapsulating most of my PhD work, which is out today in @ScienceMagazine 🥰❤️. A new long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) underlying sex chromosome dosage compensation in the lizard Anolis 🦎 #MAYEX! 🧵👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
Happy to see this one out! Congratulations to Mariela Tenorio (@mayetenorio_) and Diego Cortez (@ccg_unam) for leading the discovery of MAYEX, a #lncRNA involved in dosage compensation in the green Anole 🦎!!! Link to the paper and more details in the 🧵👇🏽

Very proud of my MSc student Katharina Luftensteiner for presenting our initial results on non-destructively AMS dating bone at @ESHE_society #eshe2024 @Lauravdsluis @MaddalenaGian10
Really proud to co-author this paper on the genetic history of the Rapa Nui people. The genomes of 15 Rapa Nui reveal admixture with ancient South Americans took place soon after first landfall w. no later drop in gen. diversity consistent with 'ecocide'. nature.com/articles/s4158…
"Colonization was an active force for 500 years, and shifting the axis of scientific influence won’t happen overnight. It will require scientists in the Global North to commit to decolonizing their work and for those in the Global South to claim their rightful places in research"
