Fair Districts PA - Philly
@FDPAPhilly
FDPA is a nonpartisan grassroots group advocating for a fair redistricting process in Pennsylvania. End #gerrymandering!
One of our volunteers wonders if the current rush toward mid-decade #gerrymandering by both parties could drive more and more voters to “go rogue,” that is, not vote for their own parties. That would be perfect punishment for the conniving politicians. theweek.com/cartoons/68881…
No one knows for sure who will have the upper hand in PA #redistricting in 2031. By the time we DO know, it will be too late to put protections in place for either party. It's time for an open, transparent, public process beneficial to all Pennsylvanians. penncapital-star.com/commentary/how…
Everywhere we go folks want to sign this petition. Rural PA knows we're not represented well. Our legislators do what leaders say, not what benefits us. We see the consequences every day: underfunded schools, disappearing health care. Let's fix this: actionnetwork.org/petitions/join…
Fair Districts PA volunteers and interns have collected thousands of petition signatures this summer in every corner of PA. They'll be in Easton, Pottstown and Harrisburg tomorrow, with more tabling planned through August into September.
There are MANY people - in @FairDistrictsPA @LWVPA @RedWineBlueUSA @PAForwardParty & more- who were never politically involved but are sick of partisan power grabs & plans designed to silence people struggling to be heard. We want #fairmaps, fair elections & real representation.
a houston community college student speaking tonight at the TX redistricting hearing says she isn't politically involved but she felt she had to show up because this plan is "designed to silence the people who had already struggled to be heard"
PA's decades of #gerrymandering have left a huge imprint on PA's legislative function. It's not surprising that North Carolina, the only other state without a finalized budget, is also another with a long history of extreme gerrymandered districts. redistricting.lls.edu/redistricting-…
Most Pennsylvanians understand deadlines. Most don't understand why #PASenate gutted an appropriations bill already 3 weeks late. Why are all PA school districts, hospitals, #SEPTA, agencies & nonprofits waiting to hear from 1 senate leader in rural PA? penncapital-star.com/economy/pa-hou…
Voters? Why should they count? Seems that politicians are gonna #gerrymander however they like, the public be damned. csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2…
Voters are getting agitated about partisan #gerrymandering, and by gosh, they may show it at the polls by firing their incumbents. #NotRedNotBlueJustFair @PaHouseDems @PAHouseGOP @PASenateGOP @PaSenateDems
"After being told that legislature is prioritizing redistricting over flood relief, 62% [of likely Texas voters] said they would be less likely to vote for a Republican. The figure rises to 67% of independents, & 21% of them were 2024 Trump voters." politico.com/news/2025/07/2…
"Could there ever be a moment in which the interests of political party leaders and government reform advocates come into alignment?" That moment could bring an end to #gerrymandereing. But the party leaders have to be farsighted enough to recognize it. penncapital-star.com/commentary/how…

Is it right to right a wrong with another wrong? We're against #gerrymandering, period, no matter who does it. But in this hyper-partisan era, more and more folks seem willing to destroy democracy in order to save it. thehill.com/homenews/state…
So, are you suddenly upset about the new #gerrymandering plan in TX? We've got gerrymandering in PA too. Had it for decades. Both parties do it, but we're working to stop it. . See what we're doing here: fairdistrictspa.com/updates/introd… . Then click the Take Action tab to help the cause!

Gerrymandering is in national headlines as President Trump demands Texas legislature redistrict Texas congressional map to "find" 5 additional Republican seats. Redistricting happens by law every 10 years. Gerrymandering is manipulation of that process. time.com/7304038/gerrym…
Thank you @RepHillEvans for co-sponsoring House Bill 31, to create an independent #redistricting commission in PA. That brings # of cosponsors to 54, more than 1/4 of PA's 203 representatives. palegis.us/legislation/bi…
Ready for more budget slight-of-hand? PA House Bill 1330 was amended July 14 House Appropriations with 174 pages of new line item numbers, then given a final vote on the House floor just 3 hours later. It passed 105-97. palegis.us/legislation/bi…
We were out yesterday at the Lancaster Avenue Jazz & Arts Festival, sponsored by @hope_phl. Early rain didn't spoil it. Heard lots of incredible music! Many folks signed our petition to end #gerrymandering in PA. Our sign #NotRedNotBlueJustFair appeals to all.

A Pottsville Republican Herald reporter met Fair Districts PA volunteers & interns at a recent event & circled back for an extended interview. What do we mean by fair districts? What are we working toward? Why does PA need reform before 2031? republicanherald.com/2025/07/15/fai…
1 of 3 PA budget process: “a closed-door rugby scrum” where insiders (leaders, advisors, lobbyists) battle for their own top priorities. Most legislators won't have time to review and the public interest will have little sway. wesa.fm/politics-gover…
Excellent interview with a Fair Districts volunteer/spokesperson in the Pottsville Republican Herald: republicanherald.com/2025/07/15/fai… #redistricting #gerrymandering

President Trump is pressing for new congressional map in Texas before 2026 election. One risk: "slice the baloney too thin & it backfires.” Greater risk: #gerrymandering undermines trust, deepens polarization, alienates voters & destroys the common good. apnews.com/article/trump-…
@mcpli of @BrennanCenter says Texas GOP runs risk of creating a “dummymander” & notes “When you gerrymander, you’re making a bet that you know what the politics of the future look like." That’s hard to predict in Texas because the state is changing fast governing.com/politics/redis…
Over 120,000 Pennsylvanians have signed the petition in support of an independent redistricting commission. That's over 7,000 since April. Voters from every county & every district want an independent redistricting commission. Will legislators listen?
