FAC, @PacMediaGuild @SPJ_NorCal urge Modesto to repeal or amend a law that makes it a misdemeanor to possess safety gear like gas masks, helmets, or vests at protests. Reporters should not have to choose between their personal safety and doing their jobs. firstamendmentcoalition.org/2025/07/21/coa…
FAC opposes AB 1392, a California bill that would eliminate press access to data on public officials—because transparency strengthens public trust in government. #Advocacy buff.ly/hrlVqEi

The @mercurynews.com agrees with FAC, writing in an editorial about the removal hearing of San Mateo Sheriff Christina Corpus: "The possible unseating of a high-ranking elected official from office should be conducted in public, with full transparency, not behind closed doors.

When you think about mass shootings, wildfires, and other fast-breaking news events, it's critical that journalists can access police radio transmissions. Encrypting transmissions makes it more difficult for journalists to keep the public safe & informed. cbs8.com/article/news/l…

The press & public should not be priced out of public records. FAC & a press coalition are supporting AB 1524, a bill in the California Legislature that would ensure anyone can make copies of publicly available documents using their own devices and avoid paying steep fees.

The press can't report when they fear for their lives and safety. This is why lawsuits like ours are important to hold police accountable when they harm the journalists while they're just doing their jobs: poynter.org/business-work/…

📆 Wed 7/9 12 PM PT: Hear from journalists who have sued @LAPDHQ and @LASheriffDept for its treatment of reporters covering protests in LA. FAC clients @adjoro & @TinaDesireeBerg of @statuscoup join @ACatWithNews @bencamach0 and @caitlinvogus. RSVP: zoom.us/webinar/regist…
