#PuertoRico today enacted a bill that prohibits gender-affirming care for trans ppl under 21, against the guidance of its own Health Sec & College of Physicians & Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics & Endocrine Society. elnuevodia.com/noticias/local…
Elected officials often require a mountain of evidence to invest in programs for residents with low incomes, but they often enact business subsidies without solid research evidence they will benefit DC and renew them each year with little oversight. Read more in my blog below.
Mayor Bowser has said policies should be evaluated so we know what works. But her proposed budget invests in unproven & disproven economic development strategies, while cutting programs that research shows create healthy communities & a stronger economy. loom.ly/dwNY_sU
Today, we protected I-82 & the fair wages of tipped workers, upholding the will of 74% of DC voters. I'm grateful to my colleagues for rejecting a repeal that would ignore the realities workers face while trying to live & work in one of the most expensive cities in the country.
Every day, there's a new reason to strongly consider raising DC's capital gains taxes for those in the top 5 percent (DCFPI's proposal).
An analysis of indexing capital gains for inflation in 2018 found that literally 99% of the benefits flowed to the top 20% with almost 90% flowing to the top 1%.
Stacey Abrams breaks down everything that’s play-by-play, happening in a way that even a child can understand it. #Trump #America #Democracy #Authoritarianism #Medicaid #SocialSecurity #HealthCare #BlackWomen
DC lost one of our most passionate and dedicated activists for ending poverty and inequality. Rest in peace, David ♥️
We mourn the passing of David Schwartzman, beloved FBC Steering Committee member & lifelong activist for human rights, peace, racial and economic justice. David was a force to be reckoned with and always, always showed up to fight for liberation. His passing is a great loss.
Thanks for covering this important but under-discussed issue - DC’s early childhood programs are under attack in the Mayor’s budget and this needs to be fixed by the DC Council if we want to maintain the child care market
New: The future of DC's well-regarded program delivering pay raises for childcare workers is (once again!) uncertain, thanks to Bowser's budget. The pay equity fund runs out of money after 2026 in her proposal. And lawmakers expect they won't find the funding to change that.
