They could but won't. It's over. And lower standard in civil trials. Nothing to be gained. They have been acquitted.
Heard the call. Great insight. Question . Could the players file a civil action against EM?

I’ll be on with my good friend @TheSuperAJ on @TSN1200 today at 4:30pm ET to talk World Juniors sexual assault decision. That’s going to be the only hit I do today.
Carter Hart will play in the NHL. I have no doubt at all. He will be acquitted, which sets the stage for a return.
The Crown will have 30 days to appeal. The basis of the appeal would be a serious error in legal reasoning (like excluding texts messages related to Dube bottom slap). Unlikely Crown will succeed on appeal.
Players were presumed innocent and Crown had to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That's a high standard (certain of their guilt). The defence didn't have to prove anything; just raise doubt. As covered on Offside, the competing accounts were problematic for EM.
As expected, Justice Carroccia did “not find the evidence of E.M. to be credible or reliable”. Crown failed to meet its burden.
Sort of. The defendants are presumed innocent and the Crown must establish their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Eric how would you describe this comment from Rick Westhead earlier today?
If want a primer on where the World Juniors sexual assault decision may be headed, see last night's Offside where I covered it in depth - tsn.ca/radio/ottawa-1…
Today Justice Maria Carroccia will issue her decision in the World Juniors trial. Typically these decisions are read in Court which can take a lot of time. If the players are acquitted they walk. If found guilty, they will be released on bail pending sentencing hearing.
Today is Tuesday which makes tomorrow Wednesday.
Judge said she would deliver her decision in the World Juniors sexual assault case tomorrow (Thursday). Once she rules, I will provide some thoughts.
