Time for a quick re-intro. I’m Dr. Elie Jarrouge—board-certified in internal medicine, fellowship-trained and previously board-certified in nephrology (kidney disease), and now a full-time FOOD-FIRST DOC. After nearly a decade in hospital medicine, I got tired of watching…

When people are sick as sh*t eating junk food and taking 10 💊💊, nobody says anything. But when they stop eating junk and start eating real food, suddenly everyone has an opinion about how dangerous their diet is, despite them feeling amazing, coming off 💊💊, and losing fat.
I don’t want people drinking soda. I don’t want people eating cereal. I don’t want people living on junk food. But I also don’t have the right to force anyone to do anything. If people choose to consume this stuff, that’s their decision. That said, if we can make the…
My medical training was excellent at teaching me pattern recognition, diagnosing, and treating illnesses. Working in the hospital for 9 years further sharpened my clinical instincts. But I was never trained to think about how to reverse chronic disease. That shift didn’t happen…
If you’re looking for a prescription drug to fix your health, I’m not your guy. Meds aren’t my first, second, or third move. You’ll fix your diet first. Want a pill? Go see your PCP. Want to get better and come off or avoid pills? Let’s talk.
Doctor: “Your labs are normal!” Meanwhile, your waistline is screaming: “We are NOT okay.” Don’t let “normal” labs lull you into a false sense of health.
You can’t fix insulin resistance, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, or obesity with meds alone. These are diet-driven conditions. And the solution starts on your plate. A doctor who doesn’t understand nutrition can keep you alive, but they can’t help you thrive.
I’ve watched hundreds of patients drop their A1C from diabetic to normal in 4–6 months. No new meds. Just real food and well-timed fasting. They lost weight, reversed fatty liver, ditched BP meds, and got their energy back. Food is the most powerful drug we’re not prescribing.
Stop outsourcing your health to professionals who treat symptoms but ignore root causes. Ask your doctor how to reverse insulin resistance naturally. If they cannot answer, find one who can, or become your own expert. Knowledge is accessible. The grocery store is your pharmacy.
It’s 2025 and I’ve still never ordered food or grocery delivery. Not once. I like picking out my own food. If I eat out, I pick it up or eat there. Is this weird now?
It’s time for a new kind of medicine. One that actually creates health instead of just masking disease.
A doctor who doesn’t understand nutrition and metabolism doesn’t understand how to create health. They might be great at managing emergencies and prescribing meds, but they won’t reverse chronic disease through food.
Doctors say it’s not their job to give nutrition advice, and that patients don’t listen anyway. Really? Then why are patients scared of red meat and saturated fat, and going plant-based to fix health issues? Because they are listening. To the wrong advice.
Don’t fear saturated fat Don’t fear red meat Do fear excess sugar Do fear junk food Do fear excess visceral fat Do fear chronic inflammation
My “best” LDL was when I was metabolically sick. My “worst” LDL? When I became lean, insulin sensitive, strong, and full of energy. I see the same pattern in patient after patient. If low LDL is the goal no matter what, you might just be chasing sickness in disguise.
The LDL cholesterol level that most cardiologists strive for can only be accomplished pharmacologically or by becoming a cachectic vegan. That tells you everything you need to know. It lacks basic common sense.
Stop delaying the day you start eating better. Trust me, it gets A LOT harder the longer you wait. In recent months, I’ve had several patients who waited 20–30 years to fix their diabetes with diet, and their pancreas is definitely not cooperating. You’ve got severe insulin…
Your fork has more power than your family tree. What you eat every day rewrites your future health more than the genes you inherited.
If you can’t comfortably fast for 16 hours, something’s off. You’re likely not metabolically flexible yet, not eating enough protein to stay full, or both. Not everyone needs to fast. But it shouldn’t feel like the end of the world if you do.
You know junk food is bad. You know too much sugar and alcohol are bad. You know being sedentary is bad. And yet… most people live on ultra-processed food and barely move. Knowing isn’t the problem. Doing is.
