Reading Vollmann is a great way to remind yourself that your own quiet, personal despair is actually very boring and un-researched compared to the despair of others.
I may have gone slightly overboard at the book fair today.

I didn’t think I’d ever own this book, but here it is.

Excited to check this encyclopaedic novel out. This is Volume 3 (published first) of a projected five volume book.

Do I need this? No. Do I want this? Yes. Did I get this? I’m afraid so.

This is one of the best books I’ve read.

What is your impression when an author repeatedly uses the same construction in a novel? I lose trust in the author. I’m currently reading a novel that uses “as if”; as many as 4 times on a page.
