Emily Theokritoff
@ETheokritoff
Research Associate in Climate Damage Attribution @imperialcollege @Grantham_IC 🌍 Climate change adaptation, loss and damage & litigation
Extreme weather is becoming more common due to #ClimateChange, and scientists are studying this connection. @ETheokritoff (@imperialcollege) joined Resources Radio to discuss attributing damage from extreme weather to climate change. Listen now: resources.org/resources-radi…
🚨1 week left to submit your abstracts - we look forward to your contributions!

🚨Human-caused climate change intensified Tropical #CycloneChido’s destructive winds, elevating it from a category 3 to a category 4 storm when it struck Mayotte, a rapid study from @imperialcollege has found. 🧵 📰ow.ly/QO6A50UsvvR

On the 5th of December, we're hosting the amazing @abipalmer_bot's sensory video series explaining weather to her indoor cats! There's a panel with her, me and extreme weather attribution/adaptation scientists discussing what this is all a metaphor for eventbrite.co.uk/e/imperial-lat…
💬The aim is to recharge the field, start a conversation about climate losses and damages, and help people understand how climate change is making life more dangerous and more expensive.” Read @ETheokritoff (above) and @FrediOtto's comments below 👇

“We can choose to cultivate active radical hope, to build tomorrow today in our actions – and in doing so accelerate the better future which we all deserve.” A tour de force from @CarolineLucas – she outlined how climate action can combat populism and rebuild communities 🙏
Read comments from @imperialcollege experts @ETheokritoff & Gary Konstantinoudis on research that climate change caused half of heat deaths in Europe in 2022 👇
Climate crisis caused half of European heat deaths in 2022, says study theguardian.com/environment/20…
"Even small increases in temp can have devastating impacts, @ETheokritoff Climate Research Associate in Climate Damage Attribution @imperialcollege (& #geographer) Heat-related death increases as temps push past the limits people are acclimatised to" theguardian.com/environment/20…
Some of the limits to #Climate adaptation are already being experienced & we will increasingly reach others in the future if emissions reductions & adaptation efforts are not delivered. Read our new briefing ahead of #COP29: ow.ly/VCNx50TPSep
Climate change caused nearly half of the damage inflicted by hurricanes Milton and Helene in Florida. New @Grantham_IC research shows that a Category 3 hurricane like Milton would make landfall as a Category 2 - if it wasn’t for human-caused warming. imperial.ac.uk/news/257054/cl…
Can we calculate a #lossanddamage finance gap? Despite persistent data gaps, @adelle_SIDS, @ETheokritoff, @sneha_n_pandey & myself have mapped out a way. Check out this @Germanwatch report and get your calculators out! germanwatch.org/en/91569
Join us for our annual lecture, with a keynote address from trailblazing politician & environmental activist @CarolineLucas. Caroline will share her vision on how bold #Climate action can combat populism and rebuild our communities. 📅29 Oct ✍️ow.ly/yKzP50TAbjo
At 8:30pm EDT Wednesday, #Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, FL as a Cat 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120mph. Throughout its track, Milton was fueled by above-average, hot ocean temperatures made as much as 400-800x more likely due to climate change.

#HurricaneHelene’s deadly rainfall & wind, which created a trail of destruction across 500 miles of the US Southeast in late September, was increased by #ClimateChange📈 Our new study urges inland US regions to plan for ‘unimaginable’ hurricane floods 🧵 ow.ly/4u0B50THzW8
