Promoting electrification in the EU Working for a competitive and sustainable energy transition
Honored to welcome Energy Commissioner @DanJoergensen to the #nuclear site of @EDFCattenom with CEO Bernard Fontana. A great opportunity to highlight nuclear’s key role in driving the energy transition, clean, reliable, and low-carbon. ⚡🌍@EDFofficiel #NetZero #EnergyTransition
Today @EDFofficiel had the great honor to welcome Commissioner for energy Dan Jørgensen at the #nuclear plant of @EDFCattenom, with CEO Bernard Fontana. Thanks to all Cattenom colleagues for organizing this visit and for crafting such a memorable gift. @EDF_EUAffairs
During #VivaTech, use your energy ⚡️ to cross the Impact Bridge sponsored by @EDFofficiel, where all the low carbon innovation happens!
Electrification, supported by all low-carbon sources – including #nuclear – is our best chance to ensure a successful, competitive, and sovereign transition. A supportive political and financial framework is essential. 🇪🇺 @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025
We call on the @EU_Commission to support all forms of #nuclear: ✅ Life extension of existing plants ✅ New large-scale projects ✅ SMR ✅ A robust European industrial supply chain @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025

Concrete case: industrial heat 🛠️ 50% of demand is < 500°C 🔥 80% is still fossil-based ⚡ For 60% of this demand, electric solutions already exist! ➡️ We must act now. @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025

Electricity in EU #EDFNet0scenario 🔹 2021: 21% of final energy [vs fossils = 63%] 🔹 2025: 70% decarbonized 🔹 2040: nearly 100% decarbonized 🔹 2050: 57% of final energy 👉 A "no regrets" solution @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025

We must take a systemic approach, ensuring that our energy system is not only clean, but also reliable and cost-effective for consumers. @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025
Electrification must rely on all low-carbon sources identified by the NZIA ➡️ This of course includes renewables and nuclear. A balanced mix is essential. @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025

To reach our climate targets without sacrificing competitiveness, only one path is viable: Decarbonize and electrify. These are environmental imperatives, but also economic ones. 🔌📉 @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025
#NuclearEurope2025 participants are now breaking out into 3 separate sessions: 🚚 Building a European supply chain for AMRs, sponsored by @newcleoenergy 💻 Digitalisation for nuclear, with nuclear, sponsored by Caelus 🔌 Role of nuclear in the energy mix, sponsored by @PEJ_PL
The role of #nuclear in EU’s energy mix is not just a technical question—it is a strategic one, central to our climate ambitions, our economic competitiveness, and our energy sovereignty. @MarionLabatut at #NuclearEurope2025

🎯 The EU must set a 90% GHG reduction target by 2040 to boost: ➡️ Competitiveness ➡️ Economic growth ➡️ Energy security ➡️ Resilience 🌎 +150 leading companies & investors urge to set this target now 👉2025-05-26_business_and_investor_letter_2040_climate_target_4_3.pdf
We have many tools and ideas to help us achieve our goals, But it's essential to make them understandable, visible, easy and stable. Jean-Philippe Laurent @EDFofficiel at @Euractiv

To accelerate industrial electrification, Europe must: ✳️Support CAPEX & OPEX ✳️Improve IRR through policy ✳️Ensure regulatory stability ✳️Speed up permitting ✳️Invest in innovation We need to act now. Jean-Philippe Laurent @EDFofficiel at @Euractiv

At >150°C, energy efficiency gains don’t offset the gas/electricity spread x1.5 Electricity/gas price ratio for industry in EU x4 Tax ratio electricity/gas (€/MWh) <60€/tCO2 🟰OPEX subsidies needed short-term, electric solutions competitive mid-term Jean-Philippe Laurent @EDF

Europe has world-leading suppliers of electrical solutions ➡️€3-4bn market in 2024 ➡️80% of the value is European ➡️~45k non-relocatable jobs ➡️High-tech electrification supply chain mostly based in Europe ➡️Furnace market is largely export-oriented

🔥 Temperature matters in industrial electrification. Processes under 500°C are the low-hanging fruit — easy wins for fast decarbonisation. <150°C CAPEX support prevails, > 150°C CAPEX and OPEX : more significant support needs Smart prioritisation = faster progress.

The @EDF Net Zero scenario envisions a fully decarbonised energy sector by 2050, with electricity making up 57% of the mix. Other molecules such as Hydrogen and its derivatives will be key for hard-to-abate sectors like industry and international transport. #EDFNet0Scenario

Electrification is not just about clean energy. It's a cornerstone of Europe's industrial sovereignty, competitiveness, and climate goals. The Clean Industrial Deal must put industrial electrification at its heart. #ElectrifyIndustry Aurélie Orcibal @EDFofficiel at @Euractiv
