A Level Maths, Further Maths and Core Maths teacher in a Sixth Form College. No longer active on X: I'm on Bluesky, where it's nicer. Join me there!
I'm mainly active on the other place now, because, quite frankly, it's much nicer. Come and join us! We have loads of lovely conversations about maths and teaching!

Happy new term to all those back this week! Re-sharing this in case anyone has a Y13 student returning after the summer who has decided to apply for a university course that needs an admissions test 😊
I've made a padlet for our students who are preparing for university admissions tests (MAT, TMUA, STEP, PAT, ESAT, AEA) with links to websites and resources. Feel free to share. Please do alert me to any errors/updates, and any other resources I can add! padlet.com/ECR_Maths/admi…
Please could you complete my very short Water Usage Survey? It should take less than 2 minutes! forms.gle/e3sK9S5MBH3q9H… I'd really appreciate some reposts too please. #CoreMaths #Sustainability
I've turned this into a PowerPoint and added more news stories from the summer. The articles are in Word documents that can be printed 2-Up and double-sided to fit on one side of A4 😊 #CoreMaths wykecollege-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal…
In #CoreMaths I like to start the year with a lesson on using news articles to do some estimation or data calculations, to get the students talking and thinking about "real world" maths. Here are some recent news stories that I'm planning on using this year:
Changing A Level Exam board. Is there a document somewhere highlighting all the differences in content between Pearson/AQA/OCR for A Level Maths? @mathsjem @sxpmaths @Whitehughes @blatherwick_sam @BerwickMaths @jemmaths @DrFrostMaths @ECR_Maths
Update: I've been there 6 days, and it's loads nicer. It's like checking into a familiar hotel that has become run down, and getting a surprise upgrade to a fancy suite away from the rowdy guests. See you over there! 🦋
I've decided to see if the skies are any bluer in the other place (will continue to post on here, too, but I'm nosey and scared of getting FOMO 😅) Same name, but without the underscore. Because they don't have underscores over there, apparently 🤷♀️

Interesting discussion for #CoreMaths when studying CPI and RPI... the rate of inflation is not the same for everyone (so can only be thought of as an average rate of increase)
The price of food bought by poorer people during the cost of living crisis rose more quickly than it did for those with higher incomes, according to new research by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) news.sky.com/story/the-uks-…
Going for a weekday run 🏃♀️ During term time, I struggle to get up and go out before work (I'm not a morning person) but by the time I'm home on an evening I'm past it and don't have the energy (also, in winter, it is dark)

Question about the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls, for anyone who has experience of it. What sort of difficulty level is it, compared with similar challenges? Is it similar to BMO1, or the Senior Kangaroo...? Did your students get much extra out of taking it?
