“That’s really nice.” Phil Ramone’s voice, crackling over the talkback system, sounds surprised and impressed. It’s one of many insightful moments from the sessions for Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks that are included in The Bootleg Series Vol. 14: More Blood, More Tracks. 🧵

Another incredible thread.
Paul Griffin was smiling when he arrived at A&R Studios in New York City on the second day of recording for Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks. But when the piano man left at the end of what turned out to be another tricky session, his smile was long gone. 🧵
I revisited Bob Dylan's The Bootleg Series Vol. 14: More Blood More Tracks and loved hearing the struggles and successes of the New York sessions for Blood on the Tracks. My four-thread revisit starts here: x.com/DylanRevisited…

While I think his previous album planet waves is a good album I can only imagine Dylan fans at the time listening to this record and being completely blown away
This is a great piece. Though I’ll point out the “she was mex and I was white” line wansn’t improvised— it’s part of the original poem that the song is based on (even though Bob hasn’t included it in other performances— which is just as well considering how clunky it is!)
