My bottom line on SecDef’s Shangri-La speech: The speech won’t be particularly popular in Southeast Asia. It will be seen as too confrontation and MAGA focused. But it was reassuring about continued US commitment, which relieve many who fear US withdrawal/distraction from Asia.
