"We must expand what is working: increasing access to harm reduction tools and investing in proper treatment. We cannot afford to fall back on punitive policies that have consistently failed to address the underlying causes of addiction." newsweek.com/health-not-han…
The Senate is voting to pass Trump’s budget bill ASAP. It has $1.1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, the backbone of addiction treatment. It means more overdose deaths & ripping health care away from millions. Don’t let it happen: urge Senators to stop these cuts engage.drugpolicy.org/secure/tell-se…
Any day now, the Senate will vote on a budget bill with devastating cuts to Medicaid & essential health services. These cuts will result in more overdose deaths & fewer people getting the help they need to survive. Urge your Senators to stop these cuts engage.drugpolicy.org/secure/tell-se…
Access to naloxone, a life-saving medication that reverses opioid overdoses, is critical to saving lives & combating the opioid crisis. But federal funding cuts under the Trump administration are already limiting the ability of agencies like SAMHSA to distribute it effectively.

Deeply saddened by the passing of James "Fergie" Ferguson II: civil rights leader, fierce racial justice advocate, & founding DPA board member. His legal work desegregated schools nationwide. He challenged us to not only end the war, but to repair harms & build a peaceful world.

Despite recent progress in reducing overdose with prevention programs, the Trump admin continues to cut or withhold funding from these programs that save lives. Despite claims they'll keep them going, many are worried funding will be delayed or disappear. npr.org/2025/07/17/nx-…
Trump and lawmakers “act like they’re actually doing something, when they’re actually gutting federal programs and agencies that work to support people with substance use disorder,” said DPA’s Federal Affairs Director Maritza Perez Medina washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/…
Trump says he wants to keep Americans safe from fentanyl. Yet instead of investing in health-based solutions that save lives, Trump cuts their funding & doubles down on punitive policies that put lives at risk. Share if you agree that Trump’s actions speak louder than his words.

Exactly this. We’ve tried punishment for decades and it’s only deepened the crisis. People need care, housing, harm reduction, and evidence-based treatment and not jails. It’s time to stop repeating failure and start saving lives.
A new poll shows the majority of Americans think marijuana should be legalized. It's past time we legalize marijuana the RIGHT way, with reforms that benefit people's wellbeing, not corporate profits. Learn more about DPA's approach to legalizing marijuana drugpolicy.org/issue/legalize…

Fiasili is alive today thanks to the support of an overdose response team in her West Virginia community. Now, life-saving programs like the one that helped her are at risk. Trump’s spending bill and recent funding cuts threaten overdose prevention efforts across the country.

The Senate passed Trump’s budget bill. Now it’s awaiting a final House vote. Nearly $1 trillion cut from Medicaid = more overdose deaths & millions losing healthcare & addiction treatment. Urge your Representative to oppose these cuts before it’s too late engage.drugpolicy.org/secure/last-ch…

The truth? Medicaid (largest payer of addiction treatment) faces $800B in cuts. SAMSHA's been cut by $1B and lost 1/3 of its staff. This all threatens access to treatment, fentanyl withdrawal meds & naloxone. In NC, Project Lazarus lost DOJ grants for jail-to-treatment diversion.
