Three collections of threads from over the years, sorted by how interesting (IMO). I hope you enjoy! 1. IMO, the best 🧵s. x.com/drphiltill/sta… 2. The 2nd best set. x.com/drphiltill/sta… 3. The 3rd best. x.com/drphiltill/sta…
This third and final 🧵 of 🧵s is for the those that I put into the 3rd tier of interestingness. I hope some will enjoy them, but they are probably not for all. /1
There’ve been decades of progress stopping Foreign Object Debris (FOD) in aviation. Imagine landing a human-class lander on the Moon or Mars where the entire surface is nothing but FOD. It is crazy to think of routine planetary missions without landing pads.
Keeping the intake ramps closed after engine start was a pretty ingenious way to prevent FOD damage. As you saw in the video, the ramps stay closed, even in full AB, until ~120 knots when they open--now passed decision speed and three seconds later, the Fulcrum is airborne.
This is great! Z brings a lot of strength to the new Space MBA program.
I'm pleased to be working with @ZaheerAbbasAli again on innovative space education. We will be reaching new heights with the @UCF Space MBA!
Please indulge me or ignore me for a moment. I’m proud of my family’s military service and I just spotted these pics at Westport Island’s history center so I want to say something about them. My grandfather was in college but when the US joined WW1 he left college to enlist as…

Still trying to use Grok 3 for coding a physics problem. It is like 99% accurate but not usable for debugging hard problems in the 1%. It can only find simple syntax problems. Most of my progress has been from me telling Grok better troubleshooting steps than what it suggests😮💨
I love deer moss. At the northern tip of Westport Island, Maine.

We had a great conversation with Chris Stott of Lonestar about this recently youtube.com/watch?v=ebOqF6…

“However, high-skilled Americans would be forced to compete with them.” I don’t think that is really a problem because innovation and tech advancement are open-ended, not a zero-sum game. More builders creates more synergy and more opportunity for all builders.
The Trump administration has proposed ending the H-1B visa lottery and replacing it with a weighted system that prioritizes foreign applicants with higher salaries and advanced degrees. The reforms would increase the volume of ‘skilled’ foreign workers and reduce the volume of…
I dunno. It behaves like it has too much shear strength (maintaining shape as it twists and as it impacts the ground) to be a condensation of water vapor or gas. I think it might be a foam since foams can transmit mechanical shear stress.

On June 5th, we gathered with a global community to witness the @ispace_inc RESILIENCE Lunar Lander’s attempt to land on the Moon. Despite the outcome, that day brought together leaders and innovators across the space ecosystem. This video captures the unity and determination…
Every year when we arrive at my 93-year old mom’s cabin in Maine she greets us in some random costume. This year she was dressed as a biker (with temporary tattoos). 😂😂😂

I remember as a kid watching a lawn sprinkler spray the sidewalk and noting that no matter how long the sprinkler had been running there would always be a few drops landing on the sidewalk farther out than any had gone before. I thought it remarkable, and I still think about it.
Mathematician and polymath John von Neumann could speak eight languages by the age of six, including Ancient Greek and Latin. He could divide eight-digit numbers in his head at the age of six. He was familiar with differential and integral calculus by the age of eight. He entered…
