Design, then redesign. The first version is rarely the best, iteration always sharpens the outcome. Never settle for your first draft.
You have to work hard, like really hard if you want to make a difference. Talent or not, that hard work is the force multiplier.
The reason why you have to be intentional with your designs especially the ones you post here is that you don't know the one that will help you land your next job. Everything has to be treated with intentionality.
Your portfolio needs a hook. You’ve got 2-3 seconds. If a client doesn't see your work in that amount of time, they're out. The hook is your work.

“I need a following first.” NO YOU DON’T! You just need to be really good. If you’re actually really good you will be found. You will. Let them know you exist and it will happen…if you’re actually, truthfully, really good. That’s the key. Get really good first.
Make your designs so good that they'll want to hire you before they even meet you.
Once again, the louder design wins. Even if it’s wrong. Left: low contrast, heavy blurs, fancier layout Right: more accessible, industry standards. The left broke conventions and sparked conversation. Right was easier to ignore. Design for users ≠ design for attention.
