For the first time the Royal Navy has autonomous mine sweeping capability after new equipment was formally accepted into service. Here Commanding Officer Dan Herridge provides his thoughts on the new kit and how it will keep sailors safer at sea.
For the first time the Royal Navy has autonomous minesweeping capability to combat the threat of naval mines. Developed and manufactured in the UK by Dorset-based TKMS Atlas, the SWEEP systems safely clear sea lanes to defeat modern mine threats.

The first flight of a UK Chinook helicopter with protection from heat-seeking missiles – the Chinook Infrared Suppression System – has completed. The capability being trialled by Boeing reduces the Chinook's infrared signature, mitigating threats posed by heat-seeking missiles.

All eyes on the sky for the world’s first flypast of the E-7 Wedgetail alongside the @RAFRedArrows at #RIAT2025. We’re thrilled to be working with the @RoyalAirForce, @BoeingUK & STS Aviation Services to deliver what will be a key early warning and control system for UK Defence.

MinDPI Maria Eagle MP visited HMNB Clyde for the first time, joined by SofS Scotland Ian Murray MP. They toured a Vanguard-Class submarine & discussed a £250M investment for Dreadnought & SSN-AUKUS submarines. DE&S delivers 70% of submarine maintenance spares and crew supplies.


The UK Carrier Strike Group is currently on the other side of the world, with each vessel fully armed thanks to our Defence Munitions (DM) teams who loaded over 100,000 pieces of ammunition and other kit onto the Group’s ships ahead of deployment.

We are responsible for the provision of official and personal mail for Carrier Strike Group crew and pilots, including servicing six units made up of over 2,200 personnel. This provides a mail service to an anticipated 30+ locations across four continents.

The UK Defence Innovation (UKDI) organisation has been established and aims to streamline delivery of innovative technology to Armed Forces personnel. With a £400 million annual budget, it will help create high-skilled jobs in the tech sector and turbocharge economic growth.
It was great to get together again with experts from the US for the annual CWMD Science, Tech & Acquisition forum. Together, we are strengthening our CBRN defence capabilities at a time of heightened global risk and volatility.
We hosted UK @DefenceHQ CBRND experts at the CWMD Science, Tech, & Acquisition Forum. The event combined S&T and AD strategies to strengthen #CBRN defense capability development. International #partnerships like this enhance our deterrence strategies to keep warfighters safe.
