I’ve been off this platform almost entirely. That’s because three months ago, I almost died. I’ve wrestled with what to say or whether to say anything at all. But what happened has so profoundly impacted my family & me that silence would be false.
The theological ignorance on this app never fails to amaze. Luther, Calvin, & others all understood their reform movements as a return to ancient forms of Christianity, over against Catholic corruptions. Even the most sectarian anabaptists saw themselves in those terms!
American Protestants don’t need to turn to “ancient communities” for their faith. They only need the Bible. That is enough. It’s all there is, in fact. All the other garbage by cosplaying latter-day Fr. Coughlins and Third World accounts is an anti-American, sectarian op.
As @nathanfielder would predict, the tragic Air India crash may have been caused by bad communication between the co-pilot & pilot: The shocked co-pilot asked why the pilot turned off the fuel switches, only for the pilot to deny he'd done so & act like everything was fine.

Excellent thread on 1 manifestation of academic malfunction, & exquisite refutation of that terrible NYTimes op ed by a progressive philosopher on why academia does not need to bother making efforts to add conservatives.
When I was at BU, I wanted to bring @CornelWest & @McCormickProf for a major event on their friendship & liberal arts. As a favor & to help them, I asked a department if they wanted to cosponsor by contributing a nominal amount. They'd get credit & it would cost almost nothing.
