With or without a blue check, a continuing and trusted source of comedy nerdery.
Lucille Ball was born 111 years ago today. I first met her working on a Bob Hope special in 1985. Right before she walked out to hit her mark, she reapplied her lipstick, blotted with a pink Kleenex and then handed it to me. Now it’s forever preserved under glass with our photo.

A genius, clearly. RIP Tom Lehrer.
Very sad to learn of the passing of the brilliant and biting Tom Lehrer at 97. Even though he stopping writing and performing satirical songs a half century or more ago, I derived great joy knowing that he still walked among us. His work will forever remain the gold standard.

Tonight's series finale of 'After Midnight' will mark the end of a bold experiment in institutional silliness, so who better to pay tribute to the show and its staff than some of its most memorable guest comics? dlvr.it/TLJjym
If you're a fan of Don Novello aka Father Guido Sarducci this is a comprehensive interview from @danpasternack latenighter.com/features/don-n…

Today is apparently the 50th Anniversary of Rutland Weekend Television! That will mean absolute nothing to most of you, but a lot to me.
James Adomian has been one of comedy’s premiere political impressionists for two decades, but he owes his semi-residency at 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' to Mike Lindell (aka the MyPillow guy) dlvr.it/TKBMnD
This is a well-researched investigation into something somebody must care about. Whither the Schwings in modern sketch comedy? Featuring insightful blabbing from me, tracing the origins of Da Bears, For Me To Poop On and other comedy nerdistry - RS latenighter.com/features/where…
Like buffalo that once roamed the plains of Studio 8H in great herds, the catchphrases were plump and plentiful… and then one day they were gone. But why? Dan Pasternack investigates. dlvr.it/THz8KF
In the 1950s, a broad brush was used to paint a lot of satirical comedy as "sick." Lenny Bruce, Jonathan Winters and Tom Lehrer were branded by Time Magazine as "sickniks." But a few embraced that label. Especially future Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer. RIP.

Sad about the passing of Garth Hudson. In 2001, I attended a 5-hour concert at UCLA produced by Hal Willner that featured Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Beck, The Folksmen and ended with Hudson alone on the venue's pipe organ. One of the most astonishing musicians I ever witnessed.
As someone who grew up in west LA, I still have many dear friends in Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica. This is so scary. Please join me in praying for their safety.
Officials said that there was an "immediate threat to life." Live Updates: trib.al/1bRSmPI
Thanks to @tcm and @BenMank77 for showing Blood Simple to honor the late M. Emmet Walsh. Released 40 years ago, it was the stunning feature debut of the Coen Brothers. Sadly, we also lost Samm-Art Williams this past year, another key member of that outstanding cast.
Very sad about the passing of producer Richard Perry. We had lunch years ago and he shared his memories of producing “I Am The Greatest,” bringing together @ringostarrmusic, John Lennon and George Harrison. Richard said George was a last minute addition to the session.

Actually was inspired by @tomhanks' impersonation of Lorne Michaels, who helped me write it along with @ConanOBrien Watch the original here (with Paul Simon and Mr. Steve Martin) on our IG page and learn how it all began... - RS instagram.com/p/C5d2UXqRf0d/
Small correction for the record. The Five Timers Club may have begun as a bit with @tomhanks, but it was created by the hand up the ass of @TriumphICDHQ, Mr. Robert Smigel.
