In my opinion, this is the type of best case scenario situation. Doesn’t have to be the specific players mentioned but a “sell to buy” type of deal where incoming talent helps right away and DEFINITELY by 2026 is the deadline theory I’d praise.
Weathers is on the mend, Snelling and White are ready. I'm all in on a sell to buy mindset. If you could move Sandy for a Matt Shaw, or for any big league ready prospect, then you do it. You can supplement the rotation right now and not skip a beat.
Fortes always had value! Etzel hit a 120 wRC+ across 119 games last year and 115 thus far this season. No GM knows the Rays system better than Bendix so fair to say we can trust a bit easier on this deal than most. Plus, 120 and 115 ain’t too shabby, ya know.
The Tampa Bay Rays are working to acquire catcher Nick Fortes from the Miami Marlins for outfielder Matthew Etzel, sources say. With Tampa Bay close to trading Danny Jansen to the Brewers, Fortes provides an immediate replacement. @Ken_Rosenthal was on it.
People in the Marlins camp told @JimBowdenGM that they won't trade Sandy Alcántara for a discounted package.
Cam Cannarella signs w/@Marlins for $2,277,425 (slot 43 value = $2,276,700). @ClemsonBaseball OF, some of best bat-to-ball skills & center-field defense in @MLBDraft, plus speed too.
Baseball America updated their Top 100 Prospects including this year’s draft class. The #Marlins 1st round pick, Aiva Arquette, is the 32nd ranked prospect in baseball. He’s also the #2 prospect in the Marlins organization behind LHP Thomas White (#23 overall) Link➡️:…
Sources: The #Dolphins are hosting free agent TE Noah Fant on a visit today. It’s Fant’s third visit, having already met with the #Bengals and #Saints, as he continues to draw significant interest. Miami recently traded TE Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh.
100% the type of deal I was suggesting earlier this morning and even though I still don't think the Cubs do it...a deal that is Cassie+ is the type of immediate/2026 type of impact deal you make
The Marlins are holding out for a package that includes two of the top Cubs prospects, Owen Caissie and Jaxon Wiggins, in a potential Edward Cabrera deal, North Side Baseball reports. dlvr.it/TM8m6m #marlins #miami #marlinsbeisbol
Crazy weekday series of Wild Card teams prior to the deadline: Marlins at Cardinals while… DBacks play Tigers Reds play Dodgers Padres play Mets I doubt deadline plans change greatly this late but still interesting series of games.
The Yankees don’t made this deal but it’s one of those situations where if a team gets close to this…how do you say no as the Fish? I get the sentiment, truly, but this resolves A LOT of Miami’s 26 plans and the future
Potential #Yankees #Marlins mock trade NYY acquires: RHP Sandy Alcantara MIA acquires: RHP Cam Schlittler (NYY #3, #96 per MLB Pipeline), 2B Roc Riggio (NYY #10), C/1B Ben Rice

I would love trading for almost ready/“next year talent”. Having people who can improve contenders in some ways (Alcantara, Cabrera, Quantrill, T.Phillips, Fortes) I would try to improve with some power hitter and infield corners.
“I don’t have a tough schedule, Skylar I AM the tough schedule. A team gets swept on their home field and you think that of me? No. I am the one who sweeps!”
Them: The Marlins have the hardest strength of schedule in the second half. Marlins: I AM the strength of schedule
