A recent crash on K-10 happened when a driver used an exit ramp as an on-ramp, attempting a U-turn into oncoming traffic. Thankfully, no one was transported—but this could have ended much worse. Watch for “Wrong Way” and “Do Not Enter” signs #DriveSafe

UPDATE: The bicyclist, Clayton L. Place, 30, of Lawrence, died from his injuries on Wednesday evening while at the hospital. The Sheriff's Office gives our condolences to his family and friends. Deputies will complete a formal crash report with their findings on the details.
D25-16398 Deputies determined just after 8 p.m. a westbound 2003 gray Honda Element in the 2000 block of N 1400 Road struck a westbound bicyclist. The driver of the Honda was a 70-year-old Lawrence man. The bicyclist was identified as a 30-year-old Lawrence man.

We were grateful to the Piece Time Quilters in Olathe for donating 27 hand-stitched, child-size quilts to the Sheriff's Office for the second year in a row. These quilts are intended to be given freely to to any children in our community who might be removed from their homes.

INJURY CRASH - ROAD CLOSURE N 1400 Road between Lawrence and Eudora is closed Tuesday evening after a vehicle-bicycle crash occurred in the area. The bicyclist was transported to a Kansas City-area hospital with injuries believed to be life threatening.

Members of the Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery Team as part of their training in July worked at Clinton Lake boat ramp 2. They conducted some cleanup of the lake and worked to locate lost property from a boat that had capsized.




CRASH - Road Closure - U.S. Highway 40 U.S. Highway 40 is closed at E 175 Road in northwestern Douglas County as the Kansas Highway Patrol and deputies respond to a crash in the area. The crash occurred just after 1 p.m.

Maj. Steve Buchholz retired from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office earlier this month after 27 years with the agency. At the time of his retirement, he oversaw the Operations Division. He started his career with the the Sheriff’s Office on April 20, 1998.

Lawrence police are investigating a shooting that left two dead and one critically injured at 1600 Haskell Avenue shortly after 8pm. Responding officers found two people dead on scene, and one person was transported by helicopter to an area trauma center with critical injuries.…

INJURY CRASH - U.S. 56 CLOSED U.S. Highway 56 at E 2200 Road in southeastern Douglas County is closed as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday due to a two-vehicle injury crash. Two people involved were transported to area hospitals, including one person by helicopter ambulance.
