I also found your interpretation of Wily to be pretty unique. In my honest opinion, seeing a wily that was more genuinely sympathetic towards Robots was pretty interesting.
During the Megaman X dive server raid I spammed their stickers with Doc Robot. I got featured in a tweet (got deleted so trust me) and I was probably the only remotely funny one there considering most of the emojis were porn or Nazi shit.
