Blogger with a unique, irreverent take on #financialindependence. I started this account to amuse and to educate.
Me 10 years ago (was 1 year old): - No solid food - Can't talk - No education Me now (at 11 years old): - Eat what I want - Full sentences - Rising 5th grader - Shelf full of attendance awards What a difference 10 years can make. Sign up for my newsletter to see how I did it.
I have friends that have been trying to get absurd, capital intensive and utterly random businesses off the ground for months now. Among them: - Italian pastry imports - Clever t-shirts - custom made pillows None have ANY relevant experience. What to tell them?
Could not agree more: all of these supposed mental illnesses are usually fake
My hot take as a former therapist? Most people you know with alleged mental illnesses don’t have them. Many kids with ADHD and autism diagnoses are just badly behaved and/or socialized. Many have poor attachments. Your friend with “OCD” might just be anxious and particular.…
You can’t save your way to wealth. The only path is a high income, usually through a 9-5. Can’t do it that way? Keep trying until you’re dead, there are a lot worse ways to spend your life.
What’s a financial truth that feels mean, hurts people’s feelings, and will have you looking like this?
Fake ailments: Autism ADHD Bi-polarity Usually the people are just a-holes or plain dumb.
thoughts on mental health that would have you like this?
Most people who left California regret it. There was a herd instinct to leave. People who live in California take it for granted. The people here are better. Why? Because it's HARD to make it here. Sometimes feels impossible. The ones who can find a way, they have an X factor.
My nephew just turned 21 and has fallen into something of a black hole of Zyn, day trading and Andrew Tate videos. Should I be concerned or is this a normal rite of passage among young men these days?
I don’t think we’ve considered how violent the impact will be from semiglutides like Ozempic. Less food consumption will lead to a collapse in: - farm prices - land prices - commodities - health care employment The economy will be remade and it may be painful.

Many sociology majors, also English, History and other humanities go on to make six or even seven figure salaries. They simply get more practical graduate degrees (eg MBA) or enter a lucrative field unrelated to their major. One reason why salary “data” is so misleading.
Would you believe me if I told you the median sociology major makes more than the median electrician? $70k vs. $62.4k. The trades can pay well, and there's high demand, but the work is often physically brutal, and the hours can be bad. We shouldn't sell people on a lie.
By a more than 2:1 margin, people agree that the WNBA is not supposed to be entertaining. So if low paid players leave in frustration… it doesn’t really matter
The purpose of the WNBA is to “support women”, not to entertain. Therefore salaries can be minimum wage, since any player will fulfill this mission.
American Airlines offering me an upgrade on my LAX-NYC flight for $321. But here’s the catch: it’s from Business to First. Worth it?
According to the WSJ, lab grown diamond prices have dropped to about $750/carat. This is what a $7500 diamond engagement ring looks like today. A diamond may be forever, but its value is not

I have to admit that if anyone in my company took 20 weeks paternity leave, I’d seriously question his commitment to the job. Meaning, I’d assume they’d checked out mentally and were seeking their next position. Does this make me a bad person?
I used 100% of my paternity leave in biglaw across 2 kids & 20ish weeks. No one gave it a single thought. Many female colleagues thanked me for making it easier for them when their time came. I promise you, you’re only hurting yourself and your family by not taking the time.

First Americans started moving to second tier cities like Atlanta, Houston, and Miami. Now they can’t even afford these, moving to barely cities like Chattanooga TN and Greenville SC. They inexorable move toward cheaper and crummier places can’t be a good thing

I declare war on “self care”. So much of success in life - financial, social, relationships - is about putting yourself in the shoes of others… specifically, others with a role in your life. “Putting yourself first” is making many people poor, isolated and miserable.
Just as my generation remembers where they were on 9/11; and a prior generation where they were when Kennedy was shot… Today’s youth will remember exactly where they were when they found out about the Coldplay kiss cam video

It couldn’t happen to a nicer country. I often highlight Thailand as one of those places that’s “cheap for a reason”. Corrupt, dirty, and a scam around every corner. Also, overrun with underage sex tourism which only increases the “ick”. Stay away

Can someone explain to me how firing Jerome Powell will lower mortgage rates? I mean last time the Fed lowered rates mortgages went up 50 basis points. Mortgage rates are based on inflation expectations, not what the Fed does.
One investment that Boomers lost their shirts on, with Millennials dodging the bullet: diamond engagement rings They spent two months salary and now prices have plunged 40% since 2016. Lab grown diamonds are identical and still 1/5 the price so the drop will likely accelerate.
