This week, treaty negotiators are weighing a proposed @WHO system that would ensure global access to life-saving medicines and fund future science. Proud to share an open letter in @Nature from 290 scientists in 36 countries on why we support the proposal nature.com/articles/d4158…
On one hand, workshopping and socializing PABS with its greatest critics is undoubtedly an important step towards legitimacy and critique-proofing. On the other hand, some of these experts expressly don't want the process to succeed and continually act in bad faith. 🤷♀️
2morrow @WHO has invited 41 resource persons to discuss PABS. Not a single scientist from the 290 who signed a letter supporting stronger PABS, and WHO's own repository for sequence data has been invited. deliberate or...? @DrTedros @FilesGeneva @HealthPolicyW @nature @politico
New preprint alert!!! 🥳🥳I finished writing the paper for the first chapter of my dissertation: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… This work was completed with the @viralemergence with a lot of support and guidance from @danjbecker, @aamandavicente, and @ColinJCarlson ☺️🦇⚕️🦠👩🔬

📜 New from the old @georgetown_ghss team and current grad student in the group @haileydrob! tl;dr: There's a lot of steps to outbreak response - including before and long after - but they're more shared across outbreaks and settings than we thought. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

In a bygone era, this website was a great place to make friends when you moved to a new city. I sort of doubt it is anymore, due to the sort of site-wide H*tleritosis, but - if you're a science or tech person in New Haven, say hi! Maybe, uh, on the other blue site. Bye again 🫡
Fabulous interview with @ColinJCarlson in todays @FilesGeneva about bad faith arguments across Treaty contexts including what databases can and cannot do, on traceability, user information and general weaponisation of the difference between 'cannot do' and 'will not do'. Bravo!
