Common Good Culture
@CitiesofGod
In the City of God, there will be no evil, no sorrow, but eternal joy in the presence of God.
🧵Why the Epstein story matters so deeply to the political right—and why sweeping it under the rug is not just offensive, but a civilizational betrayal:
When a society is ordered to the glorification of God, what we create reflects the eternal nature of God. Through Him we can justify a multigenerational masterpiece, without Him, we cannot see past the fiscal quarter.
When asked why great Gothic cathedrals are no longer built, 19th-century poet Heinrich Heine explained: "The men of old times had convictions; we modern men have only opinions, and more than these are needed to raise cathedrals."
These are the faces of deceased Christians that have been accused of being supporters of Hamas by The Babylon Bee and Joel Berry Two of the people killed were Orthodox Christians
For our struggle is not against blood and flesh but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 Goodnight, we are going to win.
Considering all the military aid we’ve given to Israel, large probability this used US weapons Incomprehensibly unacceptable to shoot at one of Jesus Christ’s churches We need to IMMEDIATELY cut ALL foreign aid to Israel and demand return of the $300B we’ve given them so far
BREAKING Cardinal Pizzaballa has confirmed that at least THREE PEOPLE have now DIED after Israel's attack on Holy Family Catholic Church, NINE are WOUNDED Pizzaballa said 'This horrific war must come to a complete end'
This is just “proportional force” from “our greatest ally.”
Cardinal Pizzaballa: “What we know for sure is that a tank, the IDF says by mistake, but we are not sure about this, they hit the Church directly, the Church of the Holy Family, the Latin Church” Images of the only Catholic Church in Gaza before and after today’s attack.
To pursue modernity is to betray thousands of years of incremental increases in knowledge by our ancestors. Through trial and error our traditions arose at first from practicality and blossomed into what became the greatest culture and civilization ever to exist.
“Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.” Gustav Mahler, born 7th July 1860
Saint Mary's Cathedral at night in Valencia, Spain as viewed from Plaza de la Reina Spain is home to the some of best examples of Catholic urbanism. Start with a cathedral and a plaza and allow the neighborhood to organically build out, creating mystery around every corner.
"Noblesse Oblige" The term, first thought to be coined by Honoré de Balzac, a French Novelist, is a Christian concept that until recently, governed the relationship between classes. “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” Luke 12:48
Our society today does not have a "common good" shared between classes, and thus the lower classes are seen as economic units, to be preyed upon by the elites. This is reflected in our throwaway architecture and strip mall built environment that is ordered towards consumerism.
“What is needed is a new kind of elite, one that is not alienated from the people it governs, but is integrated with them, sharing a common love of place, culture, and history.” - Patrick Deneen As is true in many cases, the solution can be found by looking backwards.
Architectural forms like brutalism and other modern concepts are so far removed from what we understand to be beautiful that they appear to intentionally be ugly, which is an evil act and must be condemned.
Architecture is public art, and thus, a moral act. It’s not like hanging a painting in your private bedroom. To shape a city with power and elegance is to uplift souls. Governments should always prioritize civic beauty and art over braindead, performative identity policies.
The Catholic Church is and has always been poised to save and lead the great civilization that came to fruition through her. Praise God.
For centuries, Canterbury Cathedral has been the heart of English Christian history—the site of Thomas Becket’s martyrdom and the destination of countless pilgrimages. Yesterday, it hosted its first Catholic Mass in over 400 years. History isn’t dead. It’s waking up.
Beauty is the ultimate form of sustainability. Humans will always seek to preserve what is beautiful.
"There is a deep human need for beauty and if you ignore that need in architecture, your buildings will not last, since people will never feel at home in them." - Sir Roger Scruton.
