Who knew?

I had several Red Delicious apple trees growing on my acreage a few years ago. I thought they would be just as you describe. They were absolutely wonderful--when ripened on the tree. Buy them local, rather than picked too early and ripened in a warehouse. Or grow your own.

It was a marketing campaign (& b/c they LOOK good) that got us this crappy apple. I’d love to see the “red delicious” banished from my grocery store. It’s the worst apple I have ever tasted.

Stopped eating them in my 20s. They are, as you say, mushy, and tasteless. They are not good for baking either. I love the fall, because we have a huge variety of local apples here in Virginia. I don't like McIntosh either, FYI.

For how much longer are we going to tolerate these monstrosities being advertised as “Red Delicious” apples? They are mushy, mealy, and tasteless. We don’t have to take this false advertising anymore, America. Enough is enough.
