Hippo spa day! 🐟 The tilapia that share the pool with the hippos help to keep the water clean by eating the hippo dung and they also eat the dead skin off of the hippos which keep them clean and free of micro-organisms. This is referred to as a symbiotic relationship.
The cheetah cubs are doing great on their training! They're working on leash walking so they can walk around the zoo for enrichment & visit different areas to help with educational programs talking about cheetah conservation! Lulu had a fun time exploring during her walk.

Henry the critically endangered orangutan moves across the habitat! These apes are the largest tree-dwelling animal and the only true arboreal ape 🦧
Fritz and Tucker! Hippos use their mouths to explore their world, play, and learn. Open-mouthed interactions are normal hippo behavior!

The king cobra is the world's longest venomous snake, capable of reaching over 18 feet in length. They primarily prey on other snakes, including venomous cobras, and can "stand up" to a third of its body height when threatened #SnakeWeek

Meet Gabonicus, the gaboon viper! They have the longest fangs of any snake, measuring up to 2 inches, allowing it to deliver a powerful venom. The geometric patterns on their body resemble fallen leaves, providing effective camouflage on the forest floor. #SnakeWeek

Nap time at Hippo Cove! 🦛 💤 Hippos are able to sleep both in and out of the water. They have the unique ability to sleep underwater and surface for air without waking up!
Emerald tree boas have the longest teeth of any non venomous snake species. Unlike its look-a-like, the Green Tree Python, it gives birth to live young instead of laying eggs.Emerald tree boas were given the scientific name “caninus” due to their dog-like appearance in profile.

Happy 14th Birthday Imani! DYK- Lions develop dark spots on their noses as they age. Scientists can use these spots to relatively age unknown individuals in the wild.

Meet Wednesday, the Eastern indigo snake! They are one of the longest native snake species in the US, reaching lengths of up to 8 feet. They are non-venomous and known for their shiny, black appearance. See her at Manatee Springs! #SnakeWeek
