This was first reported as a 2-year agreement. Minimum exception can only be two years. Grizz were using full room exception on Ty Jerome and keeping all cap room open for JJJ extension. Looks like with Huff trade and Anthony buyout they were able to do Spencer using cap space.

This was initially reported as a “$240 million max,” which was confusing since the actual max was larger if it meant five years and smaller if it meant four. Turns out $240 million was accurate. First year of extension is a hair shy of max and then has get smaller raises.

Now that this is done, the actual contract numbers will probably filter out soon. Probably won’t quite match the muddled initial reporting but we’re talking minor differences there. Cam Spencer signing likely next.

Unconfirmed, but the buyout coming in conjunction with the signing suggests Anthony will probably give back the amount of Bucks deal (presumably a minimum). Grizzlies would then presumably stretch the remainder over three seasons to clear space needed for JJJ renegotiation.

First thought on that Clippers-Heat-Jazz deal: There’s a guard headed to the Clippers (Paul? Beal? Both?) Second thought: Why, yes, I would offer John Konchar for Kyle Anderson straight up. (Season-opening roster balance, bigger tradable contract for the deadline.)

The first main roster domino. Whatever buyout they do with Cole Anthony will have to come next.

Next season, Grizz watchers get the rare double-double of a (presumed) playoff race and (probable) lottery scouting, without conflict.

Tack on some ramp-up time and this might have Jackson back on the floor a week or so into the season, give or take, if the healing goes well.

Not ideal but probably unlikely to linger much into the season. It does underscore something I brought up on radio/pod today: Why a rush to add Spencer to main roster while signing a similar/better player in Jerome? No roster spots left. We’ll see.
