Kate O’Connor smashes Irish heptathlon record to claim World University Games gold in style @Cathal_Dennehy buff.ly/IYazdhu
The pride of a nation Kate O’Connor Gold Medalist in the 2025 World University Games Heptathlon with a score of 6487, a new national record for the @UlsterUniSport scholar. 🥇🇮🇪
For completeness sake she’d be the 8th overall. 4 athletics, 2 swimming and 1 golf
Barring injury, Kate O'Connor is headed for gold at the World University Games - would join Ronnie Delany (1961), Niall Bruton & Sonia O’Sullivan (1991) & Thomas Barr (2015) as the only Irish athletics gold medallists. 800m at 7.12pm Irish time. Live on Fisu.tv
51.87m for Kate O'Connor in round 1 of the javelin. That is 26cm further than she threw in her national record performance, and takes her within sight of a 6500pts total (as things stand she would need 2:09.50 in the 800m).
Fourth place for Jack Raftery from lane one in the World University Games 400m final in 45.69. Lythe Pilay takes gold with ease in 44.84. Kate O'Connor firmly in command of the heptathlon, on 3737 points - which is 71 points ahead of her day 1 tally for the national record.

WUGs Heptathlon update: Kate O'Connor ran 13.89 (-0.3) in the 100m hurdles and jumped 1.83 in the high jump. Still very early days, but she currently leads the competition and is 35 points up on her national record performance from 2021. trackathletes.ie/athlete/kateoc…
