Our partners describe a "living horror movie” in Gaza, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate rapidly, and they face impossible choices due displacement orders. Caritas continues to call for a lasting ceasefire to end the human suffering. caritas.org.au/news/media-rel…

Caritas Australia supports the call from Pope Leo XIV for dialogue and diplomacy for peace in the Middle East and joins the Caritas confederation in appealing for respect for international law and safe, unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.
“Let diplomacy silence the weapons,” said Pope Leo XIV during the Angelus. When human dignity is under threat, no conflict is distant. We call on world leaders to prioritise peace, protect civilians, and ensure access to humanitarian aid. bit.ly/45ZyQCf #GazaCrisis
Yesterday we joined other humanitarian organisations for a meeting with @senatorwong to work together on getting greater humanitarian access to Gaza, and to discuss Caritas's work on the ground to alleviate suffering, provide medical services and other humanitarian response.

Despite immense challenges, Caritas Jerusalem continues to deliver life-saving aid — food, water, shelter & medical support — to families caught in the Middle East conflict. That work is supported by the compassion of our supporters here in Australia 💛 caritas.org.au/news/media-rel…

Caritas Australia welcomes Australia taking part in international calls for a resumption of aid to Gaza. As our CEO Kirsten Sayers said in a statement last week: “Humanitarian blockades strike at the heart of human dignity and must not be an accepted feature of war”
Australia is part of the international call on Israel to allow the full and immediate resumption of aid into Gaza. Israel must enable UN and humanitarian organisations to do their life saving work. We urge all parties to return to a ceasefire and hostage deal.
