Captain James Fitzjames RN research by Fabiënne Tetteroo MA/ John Barrow Jr. propaganda account / Frederick Cook truther @drfrederickcook
On Tumblr, I get a lot of anonymous asks. I always welcome questions about my research & I don't think I'm scary to approach, but ask your anon questions here if you want: zaqa.net/FabTet WHAT DO YOU WANNA KNOW?
Captain James Fitzjames was born this day, 27 July 1813! 🥳🎉 Yesterday, I gave a tour to a group of 17 people, of Watford & Abbots Langley, where he had a happy childhood. Such a lovely day remembering & learning about Fitzjames, I was happy to see so much interest. ❤️

Rejoice: John Ross Poetry
John Ross sends John Barrow Jr. a poem he wrote & left in the Arctic in 1832. Evil Nephew JCR wintered at the spot in 1848 but didn't find the poem. "Far as the eye can reach, and all around Is one vasting solitude profound" [Barrow Bequest, British Library]

Got a Sherard Osborn letter! I'm currently on a Sherry deepdive; he's a lot like Fitzjames & was close friends with John Barrow. Like JB, he published several books & was a very good writer! Went on 2 Franklin Searches. Think I'll write his bio at some point. [Both my collection]

Fitzjames writes an official letter to Sir John Barrow about his recent promotion to Lieutenant and was a little too enthusiastic with the ink... [24 January 1838, TNA]

Most archives are accessible to anybody! You can just make an appointment and go see stuff.

This is my exact skill. I just want to find out about all the historical drama and gossip. 😌
Beautiful Edward Parry for me by the super talented @spel_acchiotto 😍

Fun night at the RGS: John Ross pays close attention to fellow Franklin searcher Sherard Osborn's talk: 'Both hands up to head & ears'. Sherard anticipates Ross will launch a written attack on his words somewhere soon... [Osborn to Sophia Cracroft, 1854]
