Truly honored to have been featured in the #FacesOfCell campaign for my contribution to the first AI-driven proteomics profiling of the eye, published last year in @CellCellPress! Excited for a career of bioinformatics research and of advocacy for URMs in science 🤩
We are pleased to bring you the @CellCellPress paper of #FacesOfCell Camilo Espinosa Bernal (@camiloespinosab), “Liquid biopsy proteomics combined with AI identifies cellular drivers of eye aging and disease in vivo” cell.com/cell/abstract/….
This is why I hate when people comment that their students are not “passionate” enough without digging deeper. A lot of the time it’s something like this. It’s also why we have a pantry that I keep stocked in our lab.
Must read for ALL scientists - particularly us queer academics so we can best support and fight for the liberation of our trans and gender non-conforming siblings 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️
It includes a Commentary from 24 transgender (and/or family of trans) scientists discussing the experiences of sex and gender minorities in STEMM and offering actions to help build a more inclusive academia and produce more accurate and rigorous science: cell.com/cell/fulltext/…
I recognize how ugly of me it is for sharing this amid ongoing global catastrophes & genocidal violence that’s death-making & world-ending. This piece speaks to mundane life & death in Little Village, where I’m from. Check my latest in Critical Sociology. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/08…
[please share/retweet!] Very happy to announce that I will be starting at @RiceEngineering as a @CPRITTexas scholar ! I will be hiring 2-3 PhD students, so please encourage your talented undergraduates interested in materials, biotechnology, and cancer neuroscience to apply!
You've heard of 1989 (Taylor's Version)... now get ready for an equally big release: NK cell-monocyte crosstalk underlies NK cell activation in severe COVID-19 (Maddie's Version). We have a new preprint out and it's Tweetorial time! 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Take a look at our landmark multiomic profiling of the eye! Spoiler: turns out our eyes can age differently than the rest of your body and this has implications for eye pathologies 😮😮. Exciting to see this collaboration out 🥳🥳
How does your eye age biologically? Read our new paper in @CellCellPress: cell.com/cell/fulltext/…
Very excited to share that I will be joining @RiceUniversity as an assistant professor in @RiceNeuro and @RiceMSNE, starting July 2024 ! My lab will focus on building Cellular and Tissue Bioelectronic Interfaces, and designing/processing materials to further human health.
@RiceNeuro is thrilled to welcome Christina Tringides (@cm_tringides) to the NEI! Christina will join us in 2024 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Material Science and Nanoengineering and will be a core faculty member of the Rice Neuroengineering Initiative.! 🎉
One of our most exciting papers is out today in @npjDigitalMed. Physical activity and sleep are prime targets for interventions for prematurity, the single largest cause of mortality in children under 5 years of age globally. Can't wait to show you what comes next!
Building an AI-based 'clock' of physical activity & sleep during pregnancy from >1000 participants' wearable data. This model uses just a smartwatch to predict gestational age. Deviations from this 'clock' are very strongly associated with preterm birth. nature.com/articles/s4174…
Are you or someone you know interested in applying to the @stanfordimmuno PhD program? SIRPA provides one-on-one feedback on applications and offers interview practice with current Stanford Immunology Students! We also offer a guide for applying, sign up below!
Wendy Guevara makes history as the first trans woman to win a Mexican reality TV show on ‘La Casa De Los Famosos México.’ 🇲🇽
Excited to see this published! Check out Pixie, a pipeline for quantifying non-cellular features (as well as improving cell classifications) in multiplexed images. nature.com/articles/s4146…
Excited to share the latest preprint with @MikeAngeloLab! While imaging studies often focus on cell objects, images capture significant info outside of cells. Enter Pixie, a pipeline for the quantitative annotation of both pixel and cell level features🧵biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Late last year, @blish_lab suggested I write a review on NK cells in COVID-19, the topic of my thesis. We had no idea if my unsolicited review would get published anywhere, but I gave it a shot. Today, it’s out in @NatImmunol!!!!!!!!! 🧵nature.com/articles/s4159…
The maternal mortality rate in the U.S. more than doubled 1999-2019, a new study out last week found. Compared to other high-income countries, the U.S. has a higher maternal mortality rate even while spending more on health care. More in Future Pulse : politico.com/newsletters/fu…
Union strong 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 on to the bargaining table!
We won. ❤️✊
Fun little side project is out with huge implications for biobanking across the globe. Special thanks to @NimaAghaeepour and @martinangstCA for their guidance!
Should you bank serum or plasma for your study? Read our new paper in @AjogGlobal: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Hard work by @CamiloEspinosaB @martinangstCA @FyezahJehan @WaqasuddinK any many others.
Wouldn’t be possible without a PI that supports service and advocacy as much as good science 🥳. Here’s to pushing for positive change in academia!
Congratulations to (soon to be Dr.) @CamiloEspinosaB for winning a James W. Lyons Award for Service. Very proud of you! deanofstudents.stanford.edu/policies-proto…
