Inspired by my recent trip to the islands, I give you the 'I'iwi, a Hawaiian endemic honeycreeper that is actually a member of the finch family. I think this is my new favorite bird.

Open Championship announcers out here calling these birds “seagulls” smdh

Aaaand another Kaua'i non-native - this is a Scaly-breasted Munia. Lots of finch takeover on the Hawaiian islands.

Another fun (non-native) bird on Kaua’i: the Common Waxbill. We stayed on an organic farm and these guys were buzzing all over the place foraging seeds.

If you’ve been to Kaua’i, you know this bird. For those of you who haven’t, introducing the Red Junglefowl - the original chicken. Wild junglefowl do live in Kaua’i, but they are so intermixed with domestic chickens that it’s nearly impossible to tell. Pretty birds though!

Favorite Kaua’i bird so far. The White-rumped Shama. Kinda reminds me of a cross between an American Robin and a Northern Mockingbird. Very thrush-like, but also very gregarious and aggressive. They also have a wonderfully long tail like a Cuckoo.
