Full overnight closure of Hwy. 1 at Rocky Creek (12 miles south of Carmel), will begin Sunday, July 27 at 10 p.m., with the highway scheduled to reopen Monday, July 28 at 6 a.m. Crews will deploy a crane across both lanes during closure to resupply seawall reconstruction project.

Crews at work 7 days a week and extended hours at Regent’s Slide. Full-scale excavation resumed mid-July utilizing both conventional and remote-controlled equipment. Crews continue to install shear dowels in the cut slope to provide immediate and long-term slope reinforcement.

State Route 166 East has fully re-opened from Maricopa to the Kern/San Luis Obispo County line. A closure was in place due to the ongoing #MadreFire. All sections of 166 are now open between the Central Coast and the Valley. @CaltransHQ

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek in Monterey County is now open in both directions. Photos just before and after the opening. Highway 1 remains closed one-mile south of Esalen to two miles north of Lucia due to ongoing repairs at Regent’s Slide. @CaltransHQ

Travelers headed northbound on US 101 thru Montecito will be diverted away from the current split lane configuration and be re-directed onto two new concrete pavement lanes. This traffic switch will occur during the overnight hours. A southbound traffic switch will occur in July.


Travelers will encounter a Full Overnight Closure of Highway 1 at Rocky Creek on Sunday, June 29 at 10 pm until Monday, June 30 at 6 am. This closure will allow a crane to deliver materials down to the shoreline in support of efforts to reconstruct a seawall. @CaltransHQ
