Must say, I'm not a huge fan of the archaic ceremonial stuff but these troopers do a bloody good job for the tourist industry and public relations. Gently and safely moving the horse in for a better shot. What a beautiful moment.

Just returned from a medical trip to Dublin. Irish junior docs paid x 2-3 UK. Irish Consultants x2 UK. Amazing. 20% would be gob smacking. 200-300% seemingly unbelievable but true.

Critics of striking medics argue that everyone is suffering at the moment. But doctors & nurses have had it worse. Recent inflation has taken the average UK worker’s real wages 2.5% below their 2009 level, but earnings are down 13% for nurses and 24% (!) for junior doctors.

You can’t argue with these numbers from the @FT can you @SteveBarclay ? ‘Nurses and doctors have seen a much steeper decline in real terms pay than the average British worker’ Just look at this, shameful:

Gas heating engineer quoted me his day rate for changing valves on our radiators. £900 for 8h. That's £112.50 per hour. He looks to be in his late 20s. Good for him, but he is in no way as skilled, talented or well-trained as the junior doctor earning £28/h at end of training
