The convective nature of last night's rainstorm meant a huge variation in rain totals across #Calgary. Accumulations varied from neighborhood to neighborhood, even from street to street. Here are some totals collected from CoCoRaHs and Tempest weather stations. #abstorm

A weekend of rain for parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Manitoba stays dry. 20 to 40 mm for central Alberta and Saskatchewan. It's a go for crops and gardens. A no-go for campers. updated day to day breakdown at Rural Roots Canada: ruralrootscanada.com/prairie-weathe…

My ears pop just looking at this! Another amazing thread from Simon….
1/ Considered a “classic” Kane scramble in some circles, Mt. Galatea is widely known for two reasons: the finest viewpoint in the Kananaskis range, and a miserable grind up scree and choss to the summit ridge. Starting at Chester Lake parking lot, the approach is a good trail.
Prairie drought has worsened. A lot. 87 percent of agricultural land in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba is either abnormally dry or in drought. Crops and farmers are stressed. An update on the latest Canadian Drought Monitor, at Rural Roots Canada: ruralrootscanada.com/drying-out-pra…
Welcome wet weather over the next few days, With 87 percent of prairie farmland now abnormally dry or in drought, rain is welcome. Not so welcome at the Calgary Stampede, perhaps, which could end with wet weather Sunday. Update at Rural Roots Canada: ruralrootscanada.com/prairie-weathe…
This week, July is doing its July thing across the prairies, offering heat, and maybe some severe storms. A day to day breakdown of prairie weather at Rural Roots Canada: ruralrootscanada.com/prairie-weathe…
The pleasantly cooler weather that arrived Friday in Alberta will spread across the prairies this weekend, ending the heat warnings. It will be a meteorologically comfortable first weekend for the Calgary Stampede. ruralrootscanada.com/prairie-weathe…
Calgary was considerably warmer and slightly drier than average in June. The avg. temp in June 2025 was 15.2, compared to the 30 year avg. of 13.7. Precip in June 2025 totaled 102.7 mm, which is 91% of the long term avg. of 112.7 mm. Data: ECCC #yyc #yycwx #yycweather

Another spectacular thread from Simon. More incredible photos from places most of us will never get to see. As the saying goes….so close but yet so far.
1/ As an accessible front range peak, Mount McGillivray is an objective I’ve been driving past for too many years. On Sunday I decided to -finally- cross it off the list. It’s not a classic scramble due to its reputation for tedious side hilling, but I found it to be interesting.
Last week - rain. This week - heat. Just the right combination of both can make your garden grow, and crops flourish. Will the combination be right? A day to day breakdown of this week's prairie weather and last week's rain is at Rural Roots Canada: ruralrootscanada.com/prairie-weathe…
An excellent documentary on the 2013 Calgary flood. It was produced several years ago for the Discovery Channel, and I was surprised to see it in my YouTube feed today. Hard to believe it was 12 years ago. youtube.com/watch?v=PVpTzw…
