Designed by George Keller, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch honors 4,000 Hartford residents who fought in the Civil War and the 400 who died in service. Statues represent the occupations of the soldiers - student, farmer, blacksmith, carpenter, stone mason, and freed slave.

Capitol Information & Tours took a field trip to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell park. Tours are offered on Thursdays from 12-1:30pm, May through October. The climb is certainly worth it!

Happy Birthday to CT's State Hero Nathan Hale! Born on June 5, 1755 he served as a spy for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Did you know he was an early believer in the education of women? He was named the state hero in 1985.
