The Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) Survey
@CPRSurvey
The CPR Survey is the largest marine ecological survey in the world, monitoring the health of our oceans. Part of the Marine Biological Association @thembauk
Congratulations to the Captain & crew of WEC Corneille & team at WEC Lines for launching their first Continuous Plankton Recorder! They will collect important #plankton data between Bilbao & Liverpool helping provide insights into #ocean health. Read more buff.ly/3XNtxlh

Lance Gregory, our Head of CPR Operations, had the honour of attending a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace this week. This was in recognition of all our work and achievements over the years in helping DEFRA meet its goals. Even the rain didn't spoil the occasion! @thembauk

Excited to announce the addition of WEC Lines, a global shipping company, to the CPR Survey team! This partnership will enhance our ocean monitoring efforts, furthering our understanding of marine ecosystems & support effective management action weclines.com/news/wec-lines… @thembauk
Did you know our plankton observation, ancillary datasets & associated metadata are freely available? Data from our sister survey around the world are also open access, helping to drive forward marine ecological science and understanding. #openaccess #data #longtermtimeseries
Loving the talks at the #ZPS7 @ICES_ASC @PICES_MarineSci Zooplankton symposium, lots of great uses of @CPRSurvey data, glad to see all of the CPR data is made freely available across all sister surveys
This #taxonomistappreciationday we're celebrating our brilliant Senior Analyst, Marianne Wootton. She's trained almost the entire current CPR Analysis team, as well as countless others at plankton taxonomy workshops. After 22 yrs she's stepping down, thank you for everything Maz!

We are pausing on our X account in line with our value of integrity. We remain dedicated to connecting with you through alternative platforms, fostering meaningful conversations as the voice of marine biology. Find @CPRSurvey on Facebook More info @thembauk

Want to know more about our stand 'Deep Heat' and our #AtlantIS project at the @royalsociety this week? Ben from @NOCnews explains in this great video below! @thembauk @PlymouthMarine @SAMSoceannews #SummerScienceAtlantIS
NOC's Dr Ben Moat (@BenMoat1) takes us through the @royalsociety #SummerScience Exhibition and gives us the lowdown on "Deep Heat, How a warming Ocean is changing life on earth". Watch below 🎞️⤵️ #RoyalSocietyAtlantis
Excited to be at @royalsociety this week bringing plankton games, ocean research and coccolithophore fancy dress to the public! #AtlantIS #SummerScience #RoyalSocietyAtlantis with @NOCnews @PlymouthMarine @thembauk

Today on Day Of The Seafarer, we celebrate the men and women who navigate our ocean, facilitating global trade and supporting research, especially those that tow our Continuous Plankton Recorders - thank you. #DayOfTheSeafarer

A new survey of #zooplankton samples for the Continuous Plankton Recorder survey, 2022-2023 mNCEAP Environment Agency (EA) and DEFRA UK Zooplankton vertical net survey, is now available: portal.medin.org.uk/portal/?detail… @thembauk @CPRSurvey #data #MarineBiodiversity
Last week we were thrilled to host researchers from @UniofExeter🔬 This valuable opportunity provided scientists from both organisations to share current research projects & explore potential areas for future collaboration in marine biology. mba.ac.uk/advancing-mari…
Spring has arrived at the CPR lab! We're usually all about the phytoplankton spring bloom, but this week we've been watching Beryl the Blackbird tending her 4 chicks who've recently hatched above the door outside our lab! #spring #naturelovers @thembauk
Congratulations to Prof Fang Zhang, Dr Li Qiao & Dr Tao Zhencheng from China's Institute of Oceanology, who just completed their 2 week CPR Technical Course with us! They're launching their own CPR programme, with their 1st tow planned for July! Good luck & welcome to #TeamCPR!

We are thrilled to be part of the latest exhibition at @theboxplymouth alongside @marineresplym partners @PlymUni and @PlymouthMarine, showcasing some of the amazing marine work that has taken place across Plymouth 🌊 @CPRSurvey
'Planet Ocean' is open! Running until 23 February 2025, this exhibition highlights our collections, shines a light on the amazing work taking place in and around the city to safeguard the sea, and aims to inspire hope in the face of the climate crisis. ow.ly/B5bn50QKck2
CPR Researcher Clare Ostle is at the Zooplankton Symposium in Hobart, balancing work & family life! She's presenting tomorrow on changes in zooplankton communities in the N. Pacific. Dr Pierre Hélaouët pre-recorded his talk for the symposium on iCPR & digital imaging #ZPS7

Thank you to Vincent Doumeizel for visiting us here at @thembauk and @CPRSurvey, we were so honoured to welcome you to our facilities in #Plymouth 🔬🌊
Great visits in Plymouth @thembauk and @PlymouthMarine, world specialists on #plankton running the #ContinuousPlanktonRecorder, most extensive marine monitoring programme in the world since 1931 ! #Plankton is the dynamo of life on for 4Bn ! Follow us on @Plkt_Manifesto
The MBA's rich history has provided the foundations on which to build a reputation for cutting edge science and research into life in our ocean. We're proud to be a part of this internationally renowned research institute, and look forward to the next 140 years! #MBA140
Celebrating 140 years of marine excellence 🎉 For over a century, we have been a leading voice in marine science & conservation, conducting groundbreaking research & scientific discoveries; paving the way for a brighter future for our ocean. 🎥 buff.ly/4303F6d #MBA140
Great to hear our sister survey operating in the Southern Ocean has just welcomed a new ship to the fleet! Welcome to the team, RSV Nuyina! #longtermmonitoring #data #southernocean #plankton
🚢RSV Nuyina has made its first contribution to a decades-long, multinational science program, surveying the tiny marine plants and animals of the Southern Ocean using a ‘continuous plankton recorder’🦐 👉antarctica.gov.au/news/2024/nuyi… 📷N. Webster
Proud to see this research shared far and wide! A collaborative piece of work from researchers at @PlymUni, ourselves at PML, @thembauk, @EnvAgency, Marine Scotland Science, @CefasGovUK and @SAMSoceannews.
New research from @PlymUni highlights the abundance and importance of tiny plankton, which measure less than 0.02mm in diameter but can make up more than 70% of the plankton biomass found in the ocean. More info: ow.ly/qhjy50QIFmK
Last week, Head of Operations, Lance Gregory & Ship Liaison Officer, Dave Wilson travelled to Vancouver, Canada, to coordinate a CPR tow point for a new ship, MV Jean Gabriel. She will be towing our CPRs across the North Pacific collecting vital data about our ocean! #TeamCPR
