Community Emergency Medicine is an emerging method of delivering the full complement of EM care in the community - “taking the emergency department to the patient”. We will use this account to highlight the discipline as a whole with a focus on our model in north east London.

At the @CEM_LDN conference #CEMcon25 this afternoon discussing complex interfaces between physical and mental health, capacity and urgent care. Great to hear from new @RCollEM president @RCEM_VP Ian Higginson.

Is community emergency medicine cost effective? In Bristol when you match those seen by a CEMS versus those seen directly in ED the costings work out as >£1,000,000 saved in bed days. #CEMCon25

Funding Community Emergency Medicine (CEM) presents a challenge. While there are key performance indicators, few reflect the patient-centred approach and tackling health inequity, making it difficult to justify to those with the purse strings. #CEMCon25

Some key stats for frail patients: when advised they do not need hospital, there was a 17% mortality for those who remained at home and 47% for those who elected to attend hospital anyway. Community based care key for frailty @IofPHC #CEMCon25
