Incredibly excited to announce that I've been awarded a Fulbright to study at the Australian National University in spring 2024. I'll be conducting research for my new book project on criminal sentencing in common law countries.
An excellent conversation between @CathyYoung63 and @bernybelvedere about competing threats to academic freedom and how @HdxAcademy is addressing them theunpopulist.net/p/should-the-h…
Gotta wonder if he is asking his lawyers to file another defamation suit.

I understand the Three Year Letterman schtick. But people who don't are going to think either 1) this insane theory is true, or 2) there are people stupid enough to think this insane theory is true. Frankly, I don't think that we need people thinking either of those things.

Really important point here - regular people care way more about the cost and value-added of higher ed than any cultural wars nonsense Universities need to go hard on this -> grants cuts from the Trump admin will, if anything, make the cost of college go up
It is good to be aware of how vacuous and out of touch these Manhattan Institute demands are. When polling actual people with low confidence in higher ed, the most common responses are: too expensive (21%), don't teach practical skills (21%), too liberal (17%).
Founders: Devote half the Bill of Rights to criminal jury trials. Modern judges and prosecutors: I mean, that’s all well and good—but you could also just ask the guy if he did it, which turns out to be cheaper, easier, and *equally* reliable. Uh, no.
Saw Superman & really enjoyed it. Also surprised that it’s been characterized as woke/political in “the discourse” Maybe I’m missing something?
Or as they said in the Soviet Union in the Stalin era: "When you chop wood, chips fly." Pro tip: When you start sounding like Stalinists (and referring to people as "weeds," you're the asshole.
If your garden is filled with weeds you might inadvertently pull a few flowers if not careful.. but the weeds still need to go. This story does not establish a problematic trend..
