A handful of former Jays played in the NBA summer league. Ryan Kalkbrenner and Jamiya Neal won the whole thing. Recapping 10 days in Sin City: omaha.com/sports/college…
Morning! Dropping this off for the crowd that was super sleepy and went to bed super early. Y’all deserve to read, too.
Wrote a notebook from the first Creighton practice I’ve watched this summer. — Owen Freeman’s injury — Hudson Greer fitting in early — Fedor is finally (playing) free — Rounding out the roster — Ty Davis’ leadership omaha.com/sports/college…
Creighton’s again expected to have one of the best players in the country. Senior OH Ava Martin is among the 30 preseason candidates for AVCA POTY.
Ava Martin is on the @AVCAVolleyball National Player of the Year Watch List! 📰 gocreighton.com/news/2025/7/22… #GoJays x @avajomartin
Light the beam.
Free agent Doug McDermott has agreed to a one-year, $3.6 million deal to return to the Sacramento Kings, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. McDermott will enter his 12th NBA season after shooting 44% from 3 in 42 Kings games in 2024-25.
Was told Aleksa Dimitrijević is still waiting on his visa and passport. As soon as those are in, he’ll head to Creighton. But, yeah, the Jays could sure use him in the wake of Owen Freeman’s injury.
@ByJonWalker @JacobPadilla_ @mjdemarinis any idea on an Aleksa arrival date? Sounds like we could use him in practice
Charles Lee, the Hornets’ summer league coach, compared Ryan Kalkbrenner to Brook Lopez on the broadcast. Doug McDermott thought the same thing when I talked to him in March. Pretty solid comp to have as a rookie.
Creighton alum Ryan Kalkbrenner and the Charlotte Hornets will play for a summer league title tonight. They get the Kings in an hour on ESPN.
Graves is settling in along the rest of Creighton’s eight newcomers. They’ve all leaned on a few returners who’ve stepped up — including Fedor Zugic, uniquely equipped to lead the way👇👇👇
A few weeks of workouts underscored Nik Graves' decision to spend his senior season at Creighton. He can tell his new teammates are good guys. Good hoopers, too. Even if these new-look Jays are still gelling together. "We got something special here." omaha.com/sports/college…

Tricky got busy in his best performance of the summer. Still a bucket.
Trey Alexander tonight in the Pelicans 94-77 loss to the Thunder: 25 minutes 25 points 7/13 FG 5/9 3FG 4/4 FT 4 rebounds 2 assists 2 steals

To clarify: Graves didn't pick Creighton because of a transactional relationship. He was looking for the exact opposite, and that's what he found with the Jays. My bad for any confusion.
Charlotte transfer Nik Graves said he wanted his portal process not to be about basketball. (Yes, you read that right.) It's become too transactional, Graves said, with NIL and revenue sharing. Ultimately, that led him to Creighton.
Wait until the Creighton fans really get to know Nik and what a great young man he is.
