go Leafs go
You can look at Roy, Macelli and Joshua, or the new Tavares/Knies contracts as the Leafs' usage of Marner's money. Either way, I expect both of those groups to provide more playoff value to the Leafs than Marner did.
People don't realize how close the Sens were to actually beating the Leafs last season. With the exception of Game 1, imagine if they had just won in overtime in Game 2 and Game 3.

They have 2 very talented goalies who have done nothing to prove they can stay healthy with a full-time stater's load. You know what would make it really hard to match Florida? Having to play Hildeby because Sam Bennett elbowed Stolarz in Game 1. Keep the net a strength.
It sure feels like the Leafs could get a haul for one of their two goaltenders. It would be a risk, but they aren't going to get close to matching Florida's forward talent without making a big move or two. Not many contenders keep that much value in the backup goalie slot.
I can't help but wonder how different things would've been if we had Treliving this whole time instead of Dubas
Mitch Marner really took less than he could’ve gotten to play for Vegas after grinding his hometown team for every possible dollar in the last 2 contract negotiations. He is so not cut out to be a Maple Leaf and I wish him nothing but the worst in Vegas.
Some people are roasting Jake, but let's take a look at the numbers. Playoff goals since 2020 Marner: 8 Roy: 10
The leafs adding a legit cost controlled 3C and removing Marner is like my dream scenario. Go leafs go.
You’re a beauty John Tavares. He’s taken soooo much pressure off of himself for the next 4 years by taking a deal like that. Glad to see a leafs star who actually wants to win, and a management group that is willing to use the leverage they have for once.
My current hopes for the Leafs' off-season: - Sign JT to a hometown deal - Move Rielly and add a top-4 D in his place - Sign Marchand - Add a good 2/3 C - Sign as many 1-year deals as possible to keep the 2026 aka McDavid cap space open
Well Connor, the Leafs pushed Florida harder than the Oilers.. Imagine if they replaced Mitch Marner with you 👀 … Leafs gotta try to sign 1 year deals to keep the cap space open for 97
Darcy Tucker meant more to the number than he did
Should Marner’s No. 16 be retired if he leaves Toronto? WATCH: youtu.be/RBI9ZzG9m24
I’d love a scumbag like Bennett on the Leafs. But unless he has a burning desire to come home for a hefty discount compared to the outrageous offers he’s gonna get, I wouldn’t sign him. 6 x $7M is the absolute highest I’d go, and he’ll get better offers.
Tavares is such a Passion Haver. He’s lived up to his deal, which he took less than market value on, and is willing to take what seems like a discount. I’d love to keep him around. Far more than I wanna keep Marner.
CJ on Overdrive says he doesn’t get the sense Tavares is looking to use his leverage & believes his side will work with the Leafs to find a deal that makes sense. Adds Tavares AAV will be cut in half or more CJ says Marner has one foot out the door & the door is mostly closed
One last (maybe) hot take: If he’s not 1000% healthy next February, Auston Matthews should be nowhere near the Olympics. He’s not getting paid $13M to injure his wrist and be a defensive 1C. Make sure that thing is ready for April.
My offseason: - let Marner walk if he wants anything more than $10M (he will) - trade, retain salary on or buyout Rielly - sign Tavares if he’ll take a hometown discount - spread the extra money on scoring depth See y’all for free agency
