From small-town Nebraska to Harvard captain to Tom Brady’s housemate: The life and death of Chris Eitzmann. With college football season underway I wanted to repost the story I wrote on Chris earlier this year @TheAthletic. theathletic.com/3128081/2022/0…
That last play — Carlos Narváez spying Jasson Domínguez wandering off second base —takes caught napping to a whole new level.
It’s great that we have all these social media look-ins of players being called up to the big leagues. I thought it would be fun to talk to some back-in-the-day players about how they got the news. And I was right! Here’s the story @TheAthletic. nytimes.com/athletic/64231…
It’s not Drake Maye’s fault the Patriots are where they are. (But it’s the thought that counts.) Here’s my column @TheAthletic … nytimes.com/athletic/65119…
Patriots have an even more important goal than beating 8.5 wins — it’s called respectability. Here’s my column @TheAthletic … nytimes.com/athletic/65076…
IMO Red Sox fans should be more worried about Tanner Houck’s setback in his rehab stint than the two losses to the Cubs. Anyway, @jcmccaffrey @TheAthletic has a breakdown of Boston’s pitching situation here. nytimes.com/athletic/65042…
If Summer League ever wraps up I’ll have BST with @PhilAPerry and @BuckinBoston on @NBCSBoston !!!
This is excellent on two levels — the actual event followed by the production value.
This is CINEMA.
In Celtics’ delicate balancing act, Brad Stevens is optimist and realist at the same time. Here’s my column @TheAthletic … nytimes.com/athletic/64817…
Baseball is wonderful in its stories, and just about everyone has them.. You captured is perfectly as always Buck! ⚾️⚾️⚾️🇺🇸⚾️⚾️⚾️
The Reds beat the Red Sox in epic ’75 Series but NESN won the reunion with its thowback telecast of Tuesday night’s rain-suspended game. The retro look will continue for one inning when play resumes today at 2:30. Here’s my column @TheAthletic nytimes.com/athletic/64678…

Had an interesting talk yesterday with Jim Rice about the1979 photo shoot he did with the late Dave Parker that became a famous SI cover. The headline: ”Who’s best?” Rice’s takeaway: Parker was. Here’s my column @TheAthletic … nytimes.com/athletic/64646…
The aftermath of the move hasn't been pretty. The Red Sox were flying high after the Yankees sweep. But now they look lost, writes @BuckinBoston ⤵️ nytimes.com/athletic/64544…
Bob Nightengale has the heartbreaking news that longtime baseball writer Scott Miller @ScottMillerBbl has passed away. All I wish to add here is that Scott was one of the absolute nicest people I ever met. He will be missed.
Heartbroken to share: Baseball lost a giant. Scott Miller @ScottMillerBbl was a brilliant writer and an even better human. His gift for storytelling embodied his kind soul and heart. I loved him, and so did all blessed to know him. Please keep Kim, Gretchen, and family in prayer
Saw this photo in the Boston Globe this morning. I believe I speak for everybody in the press box when I say that @RochieWBZ being demoted to Triple-A Worcester is only temporary. He’ll be back up sometime this season! He just needs to work on some things.

This loudmouth fan on the NESN feed … are we going to have to listen to him all night?
Now that Devers is gone, there’s all this talk about clubhouse “culture.” Red Sox should reflect on and improve the culture in baseball operations, writes @BuckinBoston. nytimes.com/athletic/64365…
“You’re going to the big leagues” is one of the best things to happen in baseball since players started using gloves. The videos go viral now, but how did these stories play out in the pre-social-media era? @BuckinBoston asked ⤵️ nytimes.com/athletic/64231…
I’m at Walker Stadium in Portland, Ore., where @picklesbaseball of the collegiate West Coast League have “Sweet Caroline” on the menu.
Sounds like fun. Winner plays the Polo Grounds Era Mets.
The Mets will host a three-inning alumni game on Sept. 13, pitting former players from the Shea Stadium and Citi Field eras against each other. Full rosters:
