Canada's financial support to Britain was collosal during the buildup (and ramping up) of lend-lease. The funds and foodstuffs that Canada sent to Britain probably helped it sufficiently long to conceivably hold out for American help. This is in addition to the immediate naval…
This is the good man who also once offered himself in exchange for Israeli children held hostage. Bloodthirsty fanatics insist that we choose a side to hate, that we demonize either the Jewish people or the Palestinian people. The cardinal sets an example by refusing to do so
Today, Cardinal Pizzaballa spent a great time with Palestinian Christian children in Gaza.
Increasingly think this is true, especially in the younger grades. Teachers are paid to interact with children, not set them up on iPads and turn them loose. Kids get enough of that at home. Let's re-envision school as a refuge from technology, a place to learn how to be human.
If schools ban phones but keep 1-to-1 computing, they shouldn’t have even bothered banning phones, honestly Go paper and pencil or don’t bother
Really appreciated this thread from @nwilliams030 on chivalry being the consequence of knowing any woman *could* be pregnant. When equality feels premised on interchangeability, asking for a major social asymmetry feels dangerous. otherfeminisms.com/p/the-danger-o…
One way motherhood really changed my thinking: I often felt vulnerable while pregnant but not visibly so & suddenly I very much wanted the traditional social graces afforded to women as a whole - like a seat on hot public transit - but many times it was never offered.
This is a nicely succinct way to put it "... this is real basis for social graces to women. It is a recognition of the life-creating power and the energy/stress/toll that takes... it is invisible " x.com/SeamusNua/stat…
More than "protection of the weaker" or an undifferentiated "respect for women," I think this is real basis for social graces to women. It is a recognition of the life-creating power and the energy/stress/toll that takes. But bc it is invisible, the best social resolution...
Follow @Jon_Hartley_ for all kinds of Canadian deliciousness. We were just in the NL and discovered that, while the Dutch are amazing at pancakes, they have terrible syrup. This is the way.

Canadian sublime. Nothing better than sweet corn on the cob drenched with butter.

Ken’s right. Instead we’ve gotten billions in spending on a national daycare program that fails to increase supply, privileges the rich, and pushes daycare providers out of the market.
I get $7,691 from Table 1 here: maytree.com/wp-content/upl… (I exclude the Child Care Expense Deduction as that’s specific for childcare expenses and hasn’t changed much at all in 20 years, sadly)

Are Teen Summer Jobs Obsolete? this is a great piece from @herandrews. commonplace.org/2025/07/16/are…
This scene is ubiquitous in the NL and in many Dutch immigrant communities.
Sed contra. Dutch people don’t do entrees. They do koffie and gebak and they do that really well.
