Postdoc at the University of Chicago exploring how everyday symbols (!@#%&) are represented in memory. Spoiler alert: $ ≠ dollar.
I am very happy to share this new preprint on attentional lapses with Ed Vogel and @monicarosenb! We show that lapses occur when a distracting goal becomes more competitive than the current goal, with competition driven by their perceived benefits. osf.io/preprints/psya…
"Drawings reveal changes in object memory, but not spatial memory, across time" 📢New paper from: Emma Megla, Samuel Rosenthal, & Wilma Bainbridge sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
You will probably remember this post. How do I know? Come find out at our #SfN24 talk on Wednesday morning, as part of the NANO54 session! I will be outlining which visual features of symbols are highly memorable, and how they can be accentuated using AI image generators.

@BradyRTRoberts and @WilmaBainbridge from @UChicago just revealed a set of brand new symbols that are designed to be highly memorable or highly forgettable! They found which visual features influence memory for conventional symbols (e.g., !@#$), then applied them using DALL-E 3.
Interested in natural visual perception? Add NANO54 (tinyurl.com/yn2p4d6p) to your SfN 2024 meeting itinerary! We have a spectacular lineup of speakers covering visual systems in silico, in animals, and in humans. @SfN #sfn2024

I’ll be giving my first #VSS2024 talk on Wed 5/22 at 9:45 AM in Talk Toom 2 (Talk Session - Visual Memory) on the “semantic and visual features driving the memorability of co-speech gestures.” Come and share your thoughts! See abstract: visionsciences.org/talk-session/
My first first-author paper is out now-- check out the thread and paper! Thanks to the whole team, especially Fernando for all his mentorship on this project 🧠
