Step count shows an inverse relationship with mortality. The largest benefits are seen with ~7000 steps/day, but risks continued to decrease to a smaller extent w/every additional 1000 steps/day up 12 000 steps/day (the highest # analyzed). thelancet.com/journals/lanpu…
From my NYT interview: It doesn’t really matter if you lift light or heavy weights, Dr. Schoenfeld said. The important thing is that you regularly push yourself during your strength training workouts. “The last several reps need to be very challenging,” nytimes.com/2025/07/22/wel…
Masters athletes showed higher levels of leg muscle mass than untrained young individuals, and levels fairly close to young athletes. Also, much lower fatty infiltration of muscle vs older controls. #liftforlife …ary-wiley-com.lehman.ezproxy.cuny.edu/doi/10.1113/JP…

New meta indicates that consuming protein before vs after resistance training does not meaningfully influence changes in lean body mass. Adds to evidence that total daily protein consumption is the primary determinant of gains w/timing secondary at best pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40647175/

Our study comparing lateral raise variations on lateral deltoid hypertrophy published in @FrontPhysiol . Great collab with @BradSchoenfeld @PaulSwinton9 and others. Read the article here: frontiersin.org/journals/physi…
Very interesting review by @TonyBlazevich et al on the current evidence about sarcomerogenesis and its application to ecologically valid exercise protocols. Still much we don't know and reason to be cautious when drawing conclusions on the topic 💪 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Very interesting findings! The Nordic curl elicited greater hypertrophy of the ST compared to the SDL. OTOH, the SDL elicited greater hypertrophy of the SM than the Nordic curl. Take home: combining both is synergistic to maximize hypertrophy of the hams journals.physiology.org/doi/abs/10.115…
This recent study combined rep ranges and found a benefit vs high load training, not sure if you saw it link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Honored to be presenting at the "Inter-Individual Variation in Resistance Training Responses" conference in Finland this November alongside some of the world's leading hypertrophy researchers 💪 jyu.fi/en/events/inte…
Yet another study showing no hypertrophic differences from heavier (10RM) vs lighter (20RM) loads. Evidence on the topic is now overwhelming. This study showed higher reps promoted better oxygen utilization; perhaps benefit to combining rep ranges? jsams.org/article/S1440-…

Gain muscle to lose fat? "This analysis reveals that a 1.9–3.3% increase in global muscle mass in humans is associated with 4.1 ± 5.8% lower fat mass." Great work by @HeWaHippo and co with important health implications. link.springer.com/article/10.100…
Contrary to what I'd expected, our new study showed similar muscle gains in the middle delt with the use of DBs vs cable lateral raises. Kudos to @StianLa07849895 for spearheading 💪
A truly terrific read by @GregNuckols that not only takes a deep dive into the research about the relationship between RT volume and hypertrophy, but more importantly about how to take an evidence-based approach to fitness prescription strongerbyscience.com/volume/
